SASKATOON SCHOOL BUS SERVICE UPDATE ⤵️
18.12.2024 13:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Randall has only been volunteering for 4 years with the WDM, but boy, does he know his stuff!
He’s always problem-solving and making sure the aging mechanics are running smoothly.
He says he’s committed to maintaining the old-style mechanics as long as possible.
Randall also enlightened me about the lore of “Punkinhead: The Sad Little Bear”, who was Eatons’ answer to Rudolph (a creation of Montgomery Ward in the US to drive sales).
You can listen to his theme song here: youtu.be/dsVTlihnpBQ?...
Randall took me behind the scenes of the Christmas displays at the WDM in #YXE, and showed me how they worked.
The Eaton’s “Once Upon a Christmas” display was built in 1948, originally crafted by the Canadian Air Force using spare parts left over from WWII.
I had the chance to speak with a wonderful Western Development Museum volunteer named Randall, who is charged with maintaining the 1948 “Once Upon a Christmas” Eaton’s display, and we spoke for over an hour about his passion for all things mechanical ⤵️

Do you have a child attending Queen Elizabeth School in #Saskatoon?
I was tipped off about this ice wall blocking the crosswalk, and I’d love to talk to a parent/teacher/EA about how this is affecting them.

But with service being cut back, you'll save a few dollars.
The City says the savings from switching to once a month pick up will be reflected in the green cart utility rates starting not next year, but in 2026.
NEW: Starting this month, your green cart will only be picked up once a month.
Collection is shifting to monthly service for December, January, February, and March.
The City of #Saskatoon says it found that there were less carts set out in winter due to less seasonal yard waste.
Absolutely FROZEN in #YXE today 🥶
It’s going to be sunny, and the fog will dissipate.
High -23, with wind chill -40 this morning. 60 percent chance of flurries overnight and a risk of frost bite! #Saskatoon
A lot of #YXE City Hall news for you today.
No snow clearing in #Saskatoon neighborhoods, a proposed property tax hike, and an expensive bill for the Bus Rapid Transit system’s redesign.
Here’s what we know ⤵️: vm.tiktok.com/ZMh3Kh9FY/
Read more on the 650 CKOM website!
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is slamming the City of Saskatoon for spending $317,757 on branding for its new bus rapid transit system.

NEW: The City of #Saskatoon is proposing a 5.84% property tax increase in next year's city budget.
This is higher than the 5.64% projected property tax increase that was previously forecast and approved by city council in November 2023.
It says this is to maintain service levels. #yxe
THIS JUST IN:
The City of Saskatoon WILL NOT be activating the Roadways Emergency Response Plan, AKA, city-wide grading and snow removal from your neighbourhood/residential street won’t be happening, unless on a priority 1-3 street. #skstorm #yxe
Waiting to hear from their next update!
25.11.2024 14:32 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0All is quiet on our crescent.
No one shovelling or trying to get out.
Schools being closed and many workplaces closed will mean most folks are staying puts until the city can get out to the residential streets and move some of this snow!
#skstorm #yxe #saskatoon
NEW: According to the City of #Saskatoon’s latest release, Priority 1 streets are marked as 86% completed, that's streets like Circle and Idylwyld.
Priority 2 streets like main roads and transit routes are 20% completed, and Priority 3’s in neighbourhoods are only 5% completed.
