I did a lot of research about filling gaps in floors. Plank floors are much more common in Europe and I came across a number of people in England using slivers. You can actually buy them ready made there. American style wood floor fillers just crack and fall through the gaps.

They are old floorboards out of the back addition ripped up into little wedge shaped strips and hammered with glue into the gaps.

This is our old adobe casa. It's the Dominguez House and General Store built around 1900. It also served as our village's first post office and school. The pictures are how it looks, how it looked two years ago, and how it looked in 1918.
