[ With water in one hand, Nilah beckoned with another. In the darkness, she'd seen the coming light that signaled Quinn's approach. She'd wait for the Scout to save herself before dispatching the beast; it wouldn't be long... ]

“ And by chasing my ally, you've accepted my challenge! Face me! ”

“ You may not understand, but I am Nilah of the Seventh Layer. Today, you will be a mark in my legend - take pride in this! There is no greater honor for a monster in the open sea. ”

[ Her hands parted and with a flourish, Nilah commanded the nearby water to call upon her formless blade. ]

[ It was with calm focus that she watched ahead, her fingertips pressed together in waiting. Then, she'd heard the cry of a silverwing, the signal of approaching battle. Once she'd seen Valor fly from the darkness, a full smile came across Nilah's lips. ]

“ Abyss-Eye! ”

[ Should Quinn glance over, she'd see as the creature slinked back into the water and give chase. The sound of crashing water, the snarling of teeth, it all was more than enough to believe Abyss-Eye had been focused on it mark. ]

[ Outside the cavern, Nilah remained poised to act. ]

[ As expected, the rangers shot landed cleanly on the sole eye! A pained snarl escaped the platewyrm as he'd flopped in the direction of his attacker. Through the darkness and the blood that swelled in his eye, he saw only Quinn's beckoning light. ]

[ Abyss-Eye had lined up for a clear shot. Across the beast, he bared only a single yellow eye; hence his namesake. It was the sole crack in an otherwise battle-tested set of scales; nothing a mere arrow could break. All it would take is the pull of a trigger, or the command to claw to exploit. ]

[ Any set of anticipating eyes could catch the reflective shine of scales under the wave. But, it wouldn't be long before 'it' broke through the water: the secluded platewyrm, Abyss-Eye! His thousand-toothed maw already wide; the torch spiraled into position to be crushed as Quinn planned -- ! ]

[ However, a rumbling could be felt as the treasure came into eyesight; the torch was caught a sudden updraft and spiraled towards the surface. Rushing water, shaking of land... Any hunter worth her salt would know this feeling well, a monster approached ]

[ Quinn was clever! As the torch sunk, it illuminated the darkness underneath the waves: the golden glimmer was sourced from the center of the abyss. Like an underwater obelisk, there was a glowing egg sat atop a lonesome tower of stone. ]

[ If the Ranger listened close enough through the tension, she'd be able to hear as something stirred in the water. Whatever it was, its shadow was caught by the dimmed light underneath the waves... Something stalked nearby. ]

[ In here, the darkness would be impressive if it weren't for the faintest glimmer of gold underneath the waves. Not to mention the silence, with the exception of Quinn's footsteps and the echo of such: it was quiet, far too quiet.]

[ Nilah quirked her lip into a smile, which grew seeing the scout push onward. Joy would have to wait for the revelry to come. ]

[ Beyond the cavern's entrance awaited an expansive pool, various annals connected the single room. ]

[ It's said you can find Nilah of the Seventh Layer whenever the night falls by the shore. In the moonlight, with a blade of water as her only partner, she dances upon the ocean... ]

“ Yes... This place does match the description of the lair. I'd like to believe us safe at the entrance, but we've no way to confirm that. I recommend you move fast!”

[ Nilah stepped off the dinghy, a hand rested on the watery orb still. ]

[ Finally, the two had struck land. All it took was a simple flick of her hand for Nilah to bring the boat to a halt. They'd be able to depart onto a small clearing, which was cleaved in half by a waterway leading into a gaping cavern, only two pathways present at each side. ]

“ What a reliable beast...! Thank you, Valor! ”

[ As ordered, Nilah redirected their course. Yet another situation to be thankful for the scout's existence. ]

“ Thank you too, Quinn. I'll trust your skill, as you've asked me. Don't make me regret it! You are much too amusing to perish. ”

[ In the limited vision, they'd passed by rock pillars in the ocean, all while the dinghy creaked violently as the agitated sea rocked it further. Regardless of the situation, the dinghy sailed onward. It wouldn't be long until their sea cavern was seen, either from bird's eye or by their own... ]

- what if you're unable to reach me? You look nimble.. But how am I to meet my promise? I said you'd be guarded! ”

[ Nilah teased, as her head turned once more. However, as if to spit in the face of Nilah's humor, the horizon was quickly blurred by a fog that soon surrounded the pair. ]

[ In those eyes, thankfulness gleamed. Quinn had exhausted herself during her preparation and marches into the heat of battle still, all for a payout. Despite the ranger's reservations about Nilah, she had earned the warrior's approval. ]

“ That is a fine plan. I have only one reservation -

“ No, not in my legend, I've slain far more ferocious. But in the eyes of Bilgerats? Abyss-Eye is a mighty foe, so he's mine! Unfortunately for him, I've felled demigods and demons--he's as good as slain~ I only need to find the beast. ”

[ As Nilah spoke, she looked over her shoulder at Quinn. ]

[ As they sailed forward, their ship poised to travel along Bilgewater's edge, Nilah remained in-place. It was clear from how she'd taken a deep inhale whenever possible, or looking longingly out to the horizon that Nilah had some appreciation for the open sea. ]

[ It was a small, display of her mastery over joy. All while the ship propelled forward, the orb at her side continued to shine--it brimmed with a twisted, inherited power. ]

“ Do not tire yourself with those oars, Quinn! Our travel will be the Lord of Joy's penance, not yours. ”

[ As if to address Quinn's concerns directly, Nilah reached for the now glowing orb hung from her waist. With a mere flick of her off-hand, a watery whip came free and lashed at the water's surface. In it's wake, the dark brine illuminated and a gentle wave clasped their ship, pushing forward. ]

[ Nilah nodded at Quinn's answer, while having ignored her concerns for the farlander's balance. When it came to the sea, she'd be the last one lost underneath its waves. ]

“ That's what I was hoping for! The greatest foes are to be mine alone, as you'd said, you're only to help track it. ”
