In a way the internet is like an at-home bar

Have read the comic now and this is not at all what it's about, which means this premise is mine to write as my own

I saw a minicomic copying/folding tutorial in Mr. Beat Adventures when I was 11 but also I was going to see They Might Be Giants instead of punk shows

...so there was never the necessity for self-publishing in prose as people whose work was popular were actually able to succeed. Book publishing also embraced weirdos historically although they do seem more squeamish now

As a writer who doesn't self-publish: I didn't read self-published books as a kid and still don't even really encounter them as an adult, "small press" for prose and poetry is not in stores the way, say, Stray Bullets was. Also: the rights in book publishing are much better than in "big 2" comics

Sending love to you in this situation Lexie, I can only imagine how hard it is and how many cool and incredible things you would be doing if you were not, in addition to all your other qualities, a good daughter

This looks great. I read The Zabime Sisters a few years ago because translator Matt Madden dropped off some copies at my local shop, had no idea it existed, a rare First Second book that's both good translated material and printed at a ok size

Ahhhh bummer to see the type is apparently quite small on the Volodine - I have enjoyed a few of his books, haven't kept up, but made a note to get that one next time NYRB does a big sale

Really great writing about a comic that is all too easy to just say "it's great, one of the best of all time" about and not get into any specifics of why that is

I'm always going to think "publishing is doing nothing wrong" is the wrong answer when "everything should be a lot weirder" is right there

My rejected manuscripts are all very short so I'm not even talking about a situation that would advantage me here. "More Gravity's Rainbows" is the answer if only for hilarity's sake

Do you think the follow-up record being called Elaines and having its advance single be called "A New Leaf" is a reference to Elaine May's 1971 directorial debut? Lyrics do not describe the plot in any way

Have not heard this band despite spendinv the 2010s living in a city which would've been on the touring itinerary of NYC to NC and generally enjoying this kind of post-punk band with a woman singer in a less-shouty more twee-pop vein

Dash Shaw's got a new comic newspaper thing out and just one idea in a preview image is such a great plot point - a woman sees a video of her man cheating on his phone but thinks it might be AI, possibly to convince herself he didn't really cheat

Few things reinforce the way language reinforces memory quite like my inabilty to remember what the names are for instrumental or foreign-language songs I have stuck in my head. It is interesting that I don't think everyone has this problem though

I like to write everyone's lines so I can mouth them to the other actors unconsciously as they deliver them. It adds a certain spice since they need to cut around me doing this
