Our results underline that high blood pressure is the most important vascular risk factor to mitigate WMH progression and associated cognitive decline. WHR did not have additional negative association with WMH progression, even though previously reported.

A figure showing results from the linear mixed models, where WMH progression is significantly associated with global cognitive decline (p<0.001), with a Bayes Factor > 10

Stronger progression in WMH was related to stronger cognitive decline, globally βœ…ΒœΒ… but not for executive function ❌

We investigated modifiable risk factors of cerebral small vessel disease 🧠 and tested whether baseline and change in blood pressure 🩺 and waist-to-hip ratio 🍐Ÿ were associated with progression of white matter hyperintensities in older adults over seven years.

Progression of white matter hyperintensities is related to blood pressure increases and global cognitive decline – A registered report Abstract. White matter hyperintensities (WMH) reflect cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD), a major brain pathology contributing to cognitive decline and dementia. Vascular risk factors, including hig...

We are very happy to present our first registered report 🀩, now published in Imaging Neuroscience. After two very productive revisions of the stage 1 and stage 2 versions through @pci-regreports.bsky.social we can only recommend this!
