Well you see "good" is relative value judgement. A 50 year mortgage terrible for a borrower but is very good for the wealthy elite who own the banks.

Trump is worried that SCOTUS will rule against him and it will be made public how little tariffs brought in.

The number is low because imports and trucking are down.

We need to tell them clearly that we think they are to blame too.

I sure hope so. They aren't redistricting because they expect the election to go well.

That's my other point, because of structural issues no option can emerge. Incremental growth isn't possible when it's all or nothing.

Since 2000 there's been a rotating group of 3rd party voters, many who later regret it and won't repeat. Ask a Nader voter how they feel about it now.

Starting a successful progressive 3rd party requires convincing enough Democrats to jump ship. Democrats don't currently have enough electoral success to pass their agenda, but they do have enough success that people won't risk abandoning them for a party with no success.

Call your senators and let them know they share the blame if they do not push for a change of leadership.

Schumer and Durbin need to go.

The way to restore trust is to take a stand against leadership too weak to meet this moment. Complicity through silence will worsen it.

This is a structural problem. Democrats retain most of those seats in safe blue districts in safe blue states. Voters aren't happy but there is no sign they are abandoning the party. If they start losing these safe seats to apathy then that would be a different story.

10.11.2025 20:35 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

What matters is whether Democrats are still winning elections. Again, you won't convince enough Democrats to vote 3rd party unless their vote has no hope of outcomes. That hope is still there as long as Democrats win elections, even if it's rarely realized.

10.11.2025 20:16 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No, it hasn't. The House is 213-219 and Senate is 47-53. Republicans do not even have a super majority. It's still within reach for Democrats to regain control of both chambers. A collapse would mean they are completely neutered with no hope of any power.

10.11.2025 19:53 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

The key is to push for control of all the levers of power in the party. Focusing only on primaries isn't enough because any progressive contender will face establishment candidates backed by the party and it's money.

10.11.2025 19:45 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There is none that will ever succeed within our electoral system. The majority of Democrats will not risk voting 3rd party.

Not without a complete collapse of the party first. That isn't really possible either unless Trump forces them out of power through arrests or rigged elections.

The problem isn't that they caved for a promised vote; the problem is that the vote will be a meaningless gesture impressing no one but Senate Democrats.

It will fail. ACA beneficiaries will suffer considerably as a result and there will be no consequences of any kind for Republicans.

Magical thinking. Voters want to see Democrats fight for them. It's not enough to believe Democrats are ideologically aligned. We have to believe it's worth our time to vote and condescending lip service is not enough.

Please don’t think this beltway game of having retiring Dem senators vote yes while everyone else votes no is going to shield leadership from the end result. We see what is happening and can’t be fooled by those games.

As others have said, we all need to be clear on the fact that what is happening in Chicago is a preview of what they are planning for all blue cities.

Especially as midterms approach.

They will tear gas us at the polls and say, oh, this isn't voter suppression. It's just business as usual.

This. They already voted to remove healthcare and to cut SNAP benefits. That's why we're in this mess.

10.11.2025 16:44 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

They gave away all leverage on all things. There will be no next time because Trump knows he has the votes to push through whatever he wants. The appeasement in January will be even greater.

10.11.2025 16:42 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Why is a retiring senator the minority whip?

That role should have transitioned the moment Durbin announced he won't seek reelection. Even absent the shutdown appeasement, it was already time for him to go.

Democrats in office need to know: all of us with very few exceptions want all of you with very few exception to lose your god damn jobs because you refuse to do them.

Much like 2024, Democrats seem to think there’s a binary choice in the 2026 election between voting for Republicans (evil) and voting for Democrats (feckless).

They rarely acknowledge the third option which inevitably harms them the most: staying home.
