As a cyclist, I truly appreciate that cars in Austria now come in 47 shades of asphalt. It makes the daily game of “spot the vehicle against the grey sky on the grey road” so much more exciting. we need a visibility campaign for motorists, high-vis paint, reflective stripes.! Be safe be seen!

Vehicular cycling is grounded in a simple premise: bicycles are normal vehicles and should be treated as such, with equal rights to use shared road space. By contrast, cars are the anomaly, large, heavy machines that consume excessive space and, create significant danger for everyone around them.

Das ewige hin und her in diesem Bereich hilft in Wahrheit niemandem. Ausser der Gaslobby, die ja mit Katharina Reich in der Regierung sitzt.

Text explaining how there isn’t a war on cars, with all the benefits of reallocating street space to move a lot more people with a lot less space and other consequences, including life and death, pollution/emissions, public and personal costs, etc. Providing more choices works better for everyone, including drivers. And more transportation choices support the economic competitiveness of cities, as smart cities know.

I’m not a fan of politicians trying to make people angry for votes by claiming there actually IS a “war on cars” (there isn’t — if anything there’s been a war on every OTHER way of getting around since the 1960s).

Vienna is moving forward with the expansion of its cycling infrastructure, adding key connections to the network. It is particularly encouraging to see Brünner Straße in Floridsdorf included in the plans. Floridsdorf and Donaustadt deserve more investment in safe, high-quality and liveable streets.
