Can machine learning improve how we classify slips during walking?

From JAB, decision tree models using heel slip distance, velocity, and acceleration outperformed prior thresholds and refined slip outcome cutoffs. DT2 with acceleration gave the best accuracy.

Can light arm weights change how evenly you walk? πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ

Yang, Atkins, and James found that small arm and waist loads did not increase lower limb gait asymmetry, supporting their use for gait enhancement.

Do your limbs respond differently when you walk with added weight? πŸšΆβš–οΈ

Jones et al. found that the nondominant limb shows greater medial knee contact forces, while the dominant limb shows greater lateral forces during load carriage.

How much does the space around you impact the way you walk? 🚢

Published in JAB, Lordall and colleagues found that walking in a 1.9 m hallway is similar to open space, while stride length, cadence, and double support phase differ by sex across speeds.

New in JAB by Lukas Krumpl et al. !

High-intensity interval running acutely decreased plantar fascia thickness and stiffness, with recovery toward baseline after 30 minutes of rest. The results highlight the load-sensitive, viscoelastic response of the plantar fascia.
