今日は「国際レッサーパンダデー」です🦝

レッサーパンダはフランスの博物学者キュヴィエがヒマラヤで発見し、最初は「パンダ」と命名しました

その後ジャイアントパンダが中国で発見され、体が大きい事から「ジャイアントパンダ」と呼ばれるようになりました

先に「パンダ」と呼ばれていた小さい方は区別のために “lesser（より小さい、という意味）” が付けられ、「レッサーパンダ」になったそうです

私は　劣化したパンダ→レッカーパンダ→レッサーパンダだと教えられて来ましたが、ちょっと違う様でした(ˊ͈ ꇴ ˋ͈๑)
