And while Scotland (where I live) operates under a different water system, this isn’t an issue confined elsewhere. Walking along the Ayrshire coastline, I regularly see sewage debris — wet wipes & sanitary products — washing ashore. It’s a reminder that we all still have work to do.

I would strongly recommend watching. It’s a stark reminder of why investment in water infrastructure, stronger regulation, and long-term environmental stewardship are so critical. It's also a stark reminder about the failure of privatisation of this essential, life-giving resource.

Alongside the investigation, the drama highlights the real human and environmental consequences, from ecosystems under sustained pressure to deeply moving stories of communities affected by polluted waterways, including the tragic death of 9 year old Heather Preen.

The programme follows retired neighbours Professor Peter Hammond & Ashley Smith, whose concern began when they saw the Windrush slowly turn brown. What unfolds is a decade-long investigation into sewage pollution, the actions of privatised water companies, and regulatory oversight from the EA.

Last night I binged Dirty Business on Channel 4 — and honestly, it’s hard to stop thinking about it.

This powerful drama tells the true story behind England’s sewage scandal and, in my view, has the potential to spark the same level of public awareness and outrage as Mr Bates vs The Post Office.

I know BlueSky isn’t really the place for gushy personal posts, so I’ll keep it brief. But if you are interested in how I made my wedding as sustainable as possible (from the dress to the décor, flowers to food, and travel to toasts), I’ve shared lots of posts about it over on Insta.

It was great to see both local sightseers, international tourists, and locals just going about their day on the bus service.

Today, I went with my Mum to Loch Katrine for a day out on the Sir Walter Scott steamboat and for a cycle around the Loch. We loved the Nature Activity Journal which helped us stop and connect to the beautiful nature around us.

It's been running throughout summer, and continues until the 5th of October!

#AD Another day out on the Trossachs Explorer bus which goes from Drymen to Callendar, connecting places like Stirling and Glasgow (and further afield) easily to the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park by public transport!

Why is the council refusing reusable cups? Why aren’t mugs available if you’re sitting in? And how on earth is this policy helping make a dent in Scotland’s cup mountain?

This isn’t just disappointing—it’s backwards.

Glasgow has been piloting the BorrowCup scheme with local cafés to cut down waste. Meanwhile, North Lanarkshire seems to be dragging its heels, actively discouraging the simplest, most obvious way to reduce single-use waste.

No mugs for sit-in customers either. How does that square with any kind of sustainability plan?

Seriously? In 2025, when 388 million single-use coffee cups are used in Scotland every single year, the council’s policy is to flat-out refuse reusables?

Went for a coffee at the North Lanarkshire Council café in Strathclyde Country Park today after Parkrun and tried to hand over my reusable cup. The response? A standoffish “we don’t do those.”
