And while Scotland (where I live) operates under a different water system, this isnโ€™t an issue confined elsewhere. Walking along the Ayrshire coastline, I regularly see sewage debris โ€” wet wipes & sanitary products โ€” washing ashore. Itโ€™s a reminder that we all still have work to do.

I would strongly recommend watching. Itโ€™s a stark reminder of why investment in water infrastructure, stronger regulation, and long-term environmental stewardship are so critical. It's also a stark reminder about the failure of privatisation of this essential, life-giving resource.

Alongside the investigation, the drama highlights the real human and environmental consequences, from ecosystems under sustained pressure to deeply moving stories of communities affected by polluted waterways, including the tragic death of 9 year old Heather Preen.

The programme follows retired neighbours Professor Peter Hammond & Ashley Smith, whose concern began when they saw the Windrush slowly turn brown. What unfolds is a decade-long investigation into sewage pollution, the actions of privatised water companies, and regulatory oversight from the EA.

Last night I binged Dirty Business on Channel 4 โ€” and honestly, itโ€™s hard to stop thinking about it.

This powerful drama tells the true story behind Englandโ€™s sewage scandal and, in my view, has the potential to spark the same level of public awareness and outrage as Mr Bates vs The Post Office.

NEW: Expensive gas still biggest driver of high UK electricity bills, says UKERC

"Volatile, gas-linked market prices โ€“ not green policies, as some misleading claims have suggested โ€“ dominate the real-terms increase in bills since 2021."

Iโ€™ll be there throughout the summit in my role as a PhD researcher in Climate Resilience and ambassador for @tearfund.bsky.social , engaging with discussions on how we can build a more sustainable and just future.

If youโ€™re attending #COP30, Iโ€™d love to connect โ€” please do reach out!

We discussed its aims, the challenges ahead, and the wider issues of accessibility for climate conferences held in remote locations.

The #COP30 Leaders Summit begins today in Belรฉm, Brazil, marking the start of two weeks of vital negotiations at this yearโ€™s United Nations climate conference.

This morning, I had the privilege of speaking with Justin Webb on BBC Radio 4โ€™s Today Programme about the summit.

A marketing gimmick thatโ€™s making pointless knitted hats that donโ€™t have a purpose? There are instructions of how to post it backโ€ฆbut are people really doing that?

Thoughts on the Innocent smoothie knitted hats? What do you think? (PS - Innocent is owned by Coca-Colaโ€ฆ)

I get that theyโ€™re raising money for charity, and volunteers do this out of love to raise money for a good causeโ€ฆbut it seems really wasteful?

I chatted to Jamie Gathercole from the Environment and Sustainability team to hear about how they plan, design, monitor and operate alongside wildlife both here in Aberdeen, and further afield!๐ŸŒ

I know BlueSky isnโ€™t really the place for gushy personal posts, so Iโ€™ll keep it brief. But if you are interested in how I made my wedding as sustainable as possible (from the dress to the dรฉcor, flowers to food, and travel to toasts), Iโ€™ve shared lots of posts about it over on Insta.

Why is the council refusing reusable cups? Why arenโ€™t mugs available if youโ€™re sitting in? And how on earth is this policy helping make a dent in Scotlandโ€™s cup mountain?

This isnโ€™t just disappointingโ€”itโ€™s backwards.

06.09.2025 10:26 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Glasgow has been piloting the BorrowCup scheme with local cafรฉs to cut down waste. Meanwhile, North Lanarkshire seems to be dragging its heels, actively discouraging the simplest, most obvious way to reduce single-use waste.

06.09.2025 10:26 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

No mugs for sit-in customers either. How does that square with any kind of sustainability plan?

06.09.2025 10:26 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Seriously? In 2025, when 388 million single-use coffee cups are used in Scotland every single year, the councilโ€™s policy is to flat-out refuse reusables?

Went for a coffee at the North Lanarkshire Council cafรฉ in Strathclyde Country Park today after Parkrun and tried to hand over my reusable cup. The response? A standoffish โ€œwe donโ€™t do those.โ€
