In Maastricht today, presenting "Le Droguier" - Montpellier's rich #materiamedica collection at Jan van Eyck Academie's Regenerate! symposium together with @sashstrelec.bsky.social. discussing traditional medicinal knowledge, #materialcultures & regenerative futures. janvaneyck.nl/calendar/reg...
20.03.2025 07:43 β π 3 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0This selection brings together medicinal plants, plant fibers, dye-producing species, fungi and mycelium specimensβinterwoven into a unique, more-than-human ecosystem that challenges fixed distinctions between nature and culture.
15.03.2025 13:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0First, we invite you to explore the Droguier through the lens of contemporary art and design, tracing how these disciplines engage with traditional plant knowledgeβboth as medicine and material.
15.03.2025 13:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0These exhibitions will not showcase plants or plant-based objects as artifacts, but rather examine their role in the shifting frameworks that have defined herbaria-related narratives.
15.03.2025 13:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A series of thematic exhibitions will be held in the Droguier over the next year, situating its historic collection within a broader contemporary context.
15.03.2025 13:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0As part of a new initiative, we seek to critically examine our complex histories, ensuring the preservation of the collective memory of these practices and emphasising the importance of acknowledging the intersectionality of natural heritage.
15.03.2025 13:53 β π 4 π 4 π¬ 1 π 1As part of the season weβll be doing guided tours of the Droguier of the FacultΓ© de Pharmacie Montpellier! Free entry, upon reservation. For dates and more information slide on the link here. A bientΓ΄t! www.moco.art/fr/evenement

22.02.2025 11:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We approached the concept as time travel, taking the visitors on a journey through traditional knowledge from its ancestral roots towards its role in contemporary urban context.
22.02.2025 11:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But how can you provide a scientific reasoning on a series of artworks deeply inspired by traditional knowledge - knowing that the two have a rather complicated relationship?

Engaging a wide variety of visual cultures, Maravillaβs
work is autobiographical, referencing his unaccompanied, undocumented migration to the United States due to theβ―Salvadoran Civil War.
We had the pleasure of working on three artworks by transdisciplinary artist Guadalupe Maravilla. Combining sculpture, painting, performative acts,
and installation, he grounds his transdisciplinary practice in activism and healing.
To emphasize the need for collaboration between arts and science, MO.CO. invited Montpellierβs diverse scientific community to contribute to this major exhibition with texts explaining the scientific context of the artworks, offering deeper insight into the subject matter. @umontpellier.bsky.social

17.02.2025 22:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As we look for sustainable solutions in global nutrition, leveraging the full potential of cassavaβroot and leafβoffers an exciting path forward.
17.02.2025 22:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This innovation reimagines cassava, transforming it from a survival staple to a functional food that could help address malnutrition and chronic conditions like diabetes.

β
Higher fiber and antioxidants to support overall health
β
Lower glycemic index for better blood sugar control
β
Enhanced anti-inflammatory properties to combat chronic diseases
The results are striking:
17.02.2025 22:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Enter the recent study from our research group, #QualiSud CIRAD at the FacultΓ© de Pharmacie Montpellier, that explored this idea by enriching cassava flour with 30% cassava leaves.
17.02.2025 22:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Meanwhile, cassava leaves, featured in beloved dishes like saka saka or pondu across Central Africa, are often overlooked as a nutritional powerhouse. These leaves are packed with protein, vitamins, and antioxidants, yet much of this potential goes untapped.
