Dang, this is the kind of in-depth worldbuilding I love to see. Thinking about energy transfer in food webs is the coolest.

Wow, I DO like comic books and want to think more seriously about the linguistics of them! I AM a social scientist who wants to know more about nation-building and language planning in fiction. I didn't ask for this article but I'm glad I found it!

We live in a country where farmers are subsidized to DESTROY tons of food every year to keep the commodity costs higher. We throw out completely usable products every day.

Submitted a project to a jam for the first time! So excited with how it turned out. Thanks @shoutingcrow.bsky.social for hosting and making encouraging reference materials. And check out The Labyrinth: It's a backdrop for the game #Dialect. #badmoonjam #TTRPG

after days of grifters and con men at CES we stumbled upon the booth for VLC. they were all dressed as wizards and told us, "we have nothing to sell, we just decided to show up". i told them I'd been using their software to pirate media for 15 years and they said "keep doing that"

I have watched them take the things that made me human - social networking, digital communities, apps, and the connecting fabric of our digital lives - and turned them into devices of torture, profitable mechanisms of abuse, and find it disgusting how many reporters seem to believe it's their responsibility to thank them and explain why it's good this is happening to their readers.

Third panel, brain saying "your study doesn't have a well-crafted research question". Fourth panel, the person remains awake with eyes well open.

I harp on this with my students and thesis advisees all the time, but you MUST have a well defined research question.

30.11.2024 02:29 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit.
Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention.
Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"
Happy to get a chance to support such a valuable source of news
