Dear Mr Abbott,

We are writing to express our serious concerns about the upcoming parliamentary vote on cuts to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and urge you to vote against a bill that would push thousands of your constituents below the poverty line.

In Ipswich, it is estimated that 43% of those currently receiving PIP will lose access to this essential payment. Research from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation found that the plans threaten to plunge 400,000 people into poverty. The Department for Work and Pensions estimates that 1.3 million people across the UK could lose PIP support under these proposed changes. Make no mistake, this will have devastating consequences for our most vulnerable residents.

As foodbank volunteers, we see the immediate impact when people lose benefits. Families who have never needed help before suddenly cannot afford basic groceries. Disabled people are forced to choose between necessary equipment and feeding their families. These cuts will drive more people into poverty and food insecurity.

Disabled people who rely on PIP to cover essential costs of living with disabilities will be disproportionately affected by these cuts. When this support is removed, families face impossible choices between heating, eating and accessing essential care.

These cuts create a false economy. Short-term welfare savings lead to increased costs for local authorities, foodbanks and charitable organisations already under pressure. The human cost is immeasurable.

We urge you to consider the impact of these cuts on your constituency and beyond. Hunger doesn’t wear club colours, similarly, it doesn’t wear party colours. It would make a huge difference if you were to add your name to the list of 100+ Labour colleagues backing the amendment put forward by 13 Parliamentary committee chairs. If that amendment is not accepted then please join the growing number of MPs who oppose the cuts to PIP, and vote against this bill.

43% of disabled people in Ipswich will lose Β£1000s in support under the proposed Welfare Bill.

This will put even more pressure on the foodbank you collect for on match days.

We've written to @jackabbott.bsky.social urging him to vote against this bill which will push more into poverty.

Hi Andy, apologies for the delay in our response. Sadly it all comes down to interpretation and with a bigger focus on β€˜referees call’ this season - VAR interventions will mostly defer to the original verdict if it isn’t a clear and obvious error. Ironically clear and obvious is a bit vague!

On the captain’s request - apparently any changes to the rule have to come through IFAB who notoriously adverse to any changes.

Hello, apologies for the time it’s taken to response. We raised these points and to answer your question - on ex-pros they have a programme which is new that has a large ex-player cohort, should start seeing them in the top 4 leagues sooner rather than later. There is 4 people in the VAR booth
