Graphic: Annual mean temperature difference (∆T) between areas covered 100% by urban vegetation and areas covered 100% by built-up surfaces, for 3 types of urban vegetation (trees, grasslands, croplands) and for 4 environments (tropical, temperate, boreal, arid)
Clues for cooling our cities:
Urban trees, urban grasslands & urban crops cool cities in most environments (negative values), except in arid conditions where only trees are effective. Shrubs likely behave as trees, I guess.
