Self-described 'agitator' Yves Engler found guilty of harassing Montreal police officer Yves Engler, a Montreal author, had been charged with obstructing the work of Det.-Sgt. Francesca Crivello and two counts of harassment.

I have various feelings about Engler for various reasons, but this ruling is very concerning to me as a criminal law professor. I hope the decision gets appealed, because if mass-emailing police (or politicians) counts as criminal harassment then I’m not sure what doesn’t.

This is why organizing that reaches for relationality is central, not secondary - it breaks the capitalist idea of us as atomized, individual consumers and compels us to act in solidarity with others. With so many of us watching the tremendous mobilizations in Minneapolis, culminating in the call to action against ICE today, I wanted to share some of what I have gathered from talking to comrades in Minneapolis over the past few weeks. A few things stood out:

A too large proportion of tenured folks refuse to acknowledge the crisis of precarious in higher ed.

However.

In a moment when the ability of anyone to speak publicly without repercussion is under threat and all university admins push precarity, abandoning the best protection is not the way.

51km/h: 80% fatal to pedestrians.
65km/h: 100% fatal to pedestrians.

Both of those are big problems, especially on a street going through so much residential land.
