Having played Cobblemon myself, I can assume for most it is just that they are worried about having that content taken down by nintendo eventually. Even if nothing ever happens, the fear of it happening is enough to push most people away from doing unofficial stuff.

If you start seeing a large decline, then maybe something is wrong. But growth (especially on patreon) is a lot harder than anything else. Patreon for most people is supplemental income, not primary. If you want it to be primary, you need to put a LOT of effort into making exclusive content.

At a certain point your growth would stop as that is the amount of people in your following who can afford to support you financially. I know this isn't the exact answer to your question you want, but, I feel it might ease your worry. As long as you are not seeing decline, keep doing what you are.
