My little brother Peter died on Tuesday. He bore a horrible illness with bravery and dignity. He saw life as a stage on which he could make people laugh. One of a kind. Died without an enemy in the world. Love to his dear wife Nora.

Yesterday my car broke down on Republic Rd. I called the AA. The call system took a few minutes but I finally got hold of Sipho. He told me I would be helped soon. Within 30mins Thomas arrived with a flat bed lorry and in no time we were home.
The service was magnificent! Many thanks AA.

He repeated stories, as do I, but each time they were just as funny. He was irreverent but also deeply religious. He loved India and Africa and cricket and friends.
His favourite toast? ‘To enduring friendship!’

Recently Jennie and I had lunch at 1920 and bumped into Dick Foxton. He looked very unwell but, as usual, was optimistic and full of fun. Now he is gone. He never forgot a birthday, got me Don Bradman's autograph, introduced us to amazing people and was never in a bad mood... 1/2

Marvellous win in the cricket. No mention of the C word now! Or the Q word! Wonderfully symbolic mixture in the players and staff. Great speeches afterwards.

In Feb I posted that in Gqeberha after hiring a car at the airport, an attempt to hijack and scam us was made. The great news is that, thanks to cooperation from us, a community group and the police, arrests have been made and the perpetrators are in jail. It shows what can be done with cooperation.

I’m not a tennis fan. Although I recognise the skill and athleticism of the sport usually I find it repetitive in the extreme. Until yesterday! What a final! What a contest! What a sport!

Today I attended the funeral of the founder of 702, Issie Kirsh. It was packed. He was a hugely successful businessman and a visionary. However he remained humble to the end, a family man and a philanthropist.

Enjoyed NAADA antiques at The Firs Rosebank today. Until trying to leave! You have to scan parking ticket + fill out a complicated form with tiny spaces. Finally got to the exit and it was asking for more money! Everyone complaining and poor attendants helpless! Please fix this.

...2/2 They obviously had observed us at the car hire company and thought we were foreign tourists and when we told them this was a clear scam they cleared off.
We have reported this but beware.

If you hire a car at Gqeberha airport beware! Soon after we did a VW Golf cut us off and two guys got out in suits with radios & badges, told us they had to activate an e-toll transponder at an ATM. We called out the scam they got aggressive and threatened to arrest me! ...1/2

The King is dead! Denis Law was my hero as a kid. The day he and George Best visited 702 was a life highlight. At dinner that evening both were interesting and interested. They were modest but generous in their conversations. The Holy Trinity has gone-but will be never forgotten! Hamba kahle King.
