the fact that pro racing cars hardly ever fail now has made pro racing materially worse to watch. drivers don't really have to manage equipment anymore. an entire element of strategy gone because it's just "gotta go fast" all the time, not "well, who can manage their brakes best?"

nature is sometimes inefficient, because that allows for fail-safes and self-corrections. I want to be able to troubleshoot my stuff. over-automation frequently removes that option. efficiency is brittle.
