As a Californian, I've been saying something like this for years. Especially when authoritarians in the federal government start talking about cutting off federal funds. Won't send us money we should lawfully have? Fine. We'll just keep ours instead of sending it to you.

Hire people to fix all the things in my 1940s era house that really need fixing but I can't afford to. And dental work, same.

I miss the days when a phone just worked without needing to charge it every day or so, and could go decades without becoming obsolete or unusable. But here we are.

Sometimes there is no reason. There are whole threads on Reddit going back several years for people who just can't log in one day and there doesn't seem to be anything anyone can (or will) do about it. :-(
