Extremely proud of Eileen Enderle for publishing her second PhD paper in @journalofecology.bsky.social !!
She shows that the impact that drought has on plant-soil feedback is mediated by soil bacterial and fungal communities.

19.09.2025 20:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This paper builds on previous work in our Grassland Response to Drought Intensity (GReDI) project, showing that increasing drought intensity has increasingly pronounced effects on microbial community structure and function doi.org/10.1016/j.so... (4/n)
19.09.2025 20:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Increasing intensity of a past drought decreased slow-strategy plant community resistance, and diminished the overshoot response of the fast-strategy plant community after the drought (3/n)
19.09.2025 20:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We show that soil drought legacies persist into the following year as shifts in soil microbial community structure and function, and that their effect on the drought response of a new plant community depends on plant resource acquisition strategy (2/n)

Using a unique long-term field experiment, we show that chronic (20 years!) drought reduces ecosystem CO2 uptake and persistently shifts soil fungal and bacterial communities, but that shifts in plant communities determine ecosystem CO2 fluxes. π§΅
