i mean, I am working on losing weight, but that's because a) I'm type 2 diabetic and it will longterm help me and b) if I can punch myself down to 230, I can actually get surgeries I need and want to get. I've got a lot of excess squishy.

have decided I need to call and maybe get an appointment with an endocrinologist to see about how well things are going.

hard mode: must be able to help me with both HRT and diabetes. That might be a problem.

The problem is who gets to define "better off", and too often, it's parents who see "like everyone else" as "better off", instead of "emotionally stable and living their best life".

One conversation comes back to me:

"Why do people say I'm not normal?"
"Well, you're very different in your interests and your ideas, so of course it's not normal. And your parents know best for you, after all."

NARRATOR: "They did not want the best; they wanted the most understandable."

I didn't know how to fake being "normal" well enough, and it took literally decades to get my gender dysphoria and my ADHD properly diagnosed and addressed, which says something about how bad it was.

I found out almost a year after I started transitioning that the therapist my parents sent me to for "emotional issues" in the mid-80s was a member of NARTH, and what I was getting was conversion therapy.

Most of my issues are "I wish I had done it sooner", "I wish I had more money", and "I wish I'd gotten that passport sooner so if those other had happened I could run away". You know, kind of the usuals.

I just would like to talk with other trans people in person, not through discord. I live in a big city! It should be easy! But I don't know where to start.

And then I get other bad thoughts in my head, too, so I stop thinking.

Oh, I hear that. I'm barely a year diagnosed with ADHD. I'm half a decade into hormones, but I haven't had the money for much more than getting three different razors to use to get enough hair off my face, and I look into the mirror and at my best I still see the old, bad me.

I just wish I could know more people in reality. I just don't know where in Philadelphia to look, and I'm feeling weirldy alone.

This is not anything I blame @drtanenbaum.bsky.social for, but it does make me think about all my internal breakage I still need to deal with someday.

I talk to trans people online, but it feels very different from actually talking, and hanging out, and being living social. I have this existential loneliness and I don't know what to do or how to deal with it.

It felt very painful to see a situation like that, even if idealized and fictional, and know that I have this yearning for something that maybe I can never have.

I know "there is still time", but I feel old and that I don't have much time left at all.

I think the thing that really hit me was that feeling of community and caring and people helping. I really don't have that at all. I don't know any trans people in RL that I socialize with (or go to parties of).

Last night I was reading through The Egg Prime Directive while everyone else was sleeping, finally, and then very suddenly I realized I was crying.
