The more that we outsource to AI the things meant to engender those capacities, the less of a chance there is to reverse course.

Human beings can understand many ways symbols may be related.

LLMs only model one: these things often appear together. This sequence is in some sense likely.

Likelihood is not sufficient

I don't like even the remotest idea of sacrificing my linguistic agency to a black box probability machine that will try to learn to sound more like me in the process of crapping out mediocre slop.

If I don't want my students to use it, why would *I* ever use it?
