I find the somewhat common dismissal of art in online communist circles annoying but I Promise pretending being an artist is as Inherently revolutionary act is just as annoying. there are people crocheting hats and scarfs for ppl who need them and there's drawing fan art. let's be real for a second

no one can force you to do things a certain way but like the Point at the end of the day is to imagine a better world and try to make it happen, even if that means making things a less convenient for yourself.

outsourcing to third party suppliers often means participating in exploitation of the global south. no selling merch is not ontologically evil but if you throw a tantrum everytime someone points the above out youre not exactly maintaining an anti-capatalist/anti-imperialist stance

artists often get called temporarily embarrassed millionaires (sometimes unfairly, often times rightfully) bc of the absolute Refusal to engage with how the Small Business Owner TM mindset can lead to embracing exploitation as a practice. bc somehow ur actually immune to participating in imperialism

artists are objectively petite-bourgeoisie. bc again. thats how the theory works. it does not imply anything other than the relationship to the means of production (of course it gets more complicated if you're working for a person or company). does not matter if we're not rich.

to be bourgeoisie does not imply lack of morals or ethics. it just so happens there's a strong overlap due to the exploitative nature of capitalism. it is, ultimately, a class descriptor (bc again, class is more than how much money you have).

to be bourgeoisie/petite-bourgeoisie means to own your own means of production, to own the thing you make. thats it.

this is independent of level of income or tax bracket. if you own the thing you sell, even if youre dirt broke, that counts. bc that's how it works under communist theory.
