I mate of mine at uni back in mid-90s was from Dubai (his dad got work there & they all moved out)- i think it was a lot less built up then, still v wealthy but less of a flashy destination. Westerners were allowed a certain amount of booze per month back then & mags were heavily censored too

Seriously though, did none of those mostly grifting types out there look at a map or notice what some of the nearby counties are like regime-wise out there? Or maybe they thought the turmoil of war only really affects poor folk, not their air-con tax avoider luxury suite lifestyle?

Honestly the collective national level of disdain for Brits living in Dubai on all my social media platforms today really is bringing the UK together as one in a way that's hard to achieve in the modern era.

The idea that British Muslim voters are greatly motivated by the survival of the Iranian regime feels quite curious. It's also fair to say that worries about the UK being potentially drawn into a wider, goal-less Middle East conflict are traditionally shared well beyond that group.

That’s quite the claim, and pretty inflammatory.

Trump used to say that Obama and Biden would start a war with Iran to distract from their political woes and retain power, betraying his own cynical thinking, and indeed that’s what he’s done. He has continuously told his enemies what he intends to do and they have continuously failed to stop him.

Well, no, they’re not just as wrong. The bigger error is not seeing that “trying to win over voters from a party on the opposite end of the spectrum, whose values your core voters oppose” is not same as “chasing voters from party on same side ideologically whose values your core voters like.”
