Reform win a seat: The true Volk have spoken and we all must listen.

Greens win a seat: Early reports that Muslims may have β€˜voted’ (an ancient Islamic practice designed to steal elections). How severely should the franchise be limited in response?

Calling AI "slop" has been one of the most effective instances of the public rebranding a product and it pisses them off.

You were forty four fucking miles from Iranian territory! You were living LITERALLY ON THE SHORES OF THE STRAITS OF HORMUZ! And you thought... you thought you weren't... I'm sorry I just can't

The migrant workers/slaves who built the city is geopolitics. The dirty money, the sanctions evasion, the uneasy relationships with neighbours, the war UAE funds in Sudan... Anyone living there is exposed to geopolitics. Just now they can't pretend otherwise.

Discworld QOTD, from Jingo

β€œHistory was full of the bones of good men who'd followed bad orders in the hope that they could soften the blow. Oh, yes, there were worse things they could do, but most of them began right where they started following bad orders.”

Just naked racism from Farage and the Mail.

Only British and commonwealth citizens are allowed to vote. It's not 'stealing' to legally take part in your own country's elections

🚨 It looks like the UK government is gearing up to upend copyright law in favour of AI companies, legalising the theft of their work.

This is despite creatives' huge protests, and despite previous proposals being roundly rejected by the public.

Please spread the word.

Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey:

"Tax exiles like Isabel Oakeshott and washed up old footballers who mock ordinary people who stay in the UK and pay our taxes... As we protect them, it's only right for tax exiles to start paying taxes to fund our armed forces, just like the rest of us".

This statement, ironically, is closer to the truth for Farage's own constituency and own voters - where levels of economic inactivity are much higher than the national average.

I mate of mine at uni back in mid-90s was from Dubai (his dad got work there & they all moved out)- i think it was a lot less built up then, still v wealthy but less of a flashy destination. Westerners were allowed a certain amount of booze per month back then & mags were heavily censored too

Seriously though, did none of those mostly grifting types out there look at a map or notice what some of the nearby counties are like regime-wise out there? Or maybe they thought the turmoil of war only really affects poor folk, not their air-con tax avoider luxury suite lifestyle?

Honestly the collective national level of disdain for Brits living in Dubai on all my social media platforms today really is bringing the UK together as one in a way that's hard to achieve in the modern era.

It's not a coincidence that Dubai is undisputed world capital for two things: 1) international drug gang c-suites; 2) LinkedIn

The number of times Trump warned that Obama, Biden, or Harris would start a war with Iran, and it never happened.

It does increasingly feel that Badenoch and Nigel Farage are locked in a battle for the 28% or 29% of voters* who might back this sort of stuff.

*Might be more, but it currently feels like that.

The idea that British Muslim voters are greatly motivated by the survival of the Iranian regime feels quite curious. It's also fair to say that worries about the UK being potentially drawn into a wider, goal-less Middle East conflict are traditionally shared well beyond that group.

Kemi Badenoch has accused Keir Starmer of not supporting the initial strikes in Iran for fear of upsetting Muslim voters β€œwhose political loyalties are swayed by conflicts in the Middle East, not the British national interest.”

That’s quite the claim, and pretty inflammatory.

Trump used to say that Obama and Biden would start a war with Iran to distract from their political woes and retain power, betraying his own cynical thinking, and indeed that’s what he’s done. He has continuously told his enemies what he intends to do and they have continuously failed to stop him.

Well, no, they’re not just as wrong. The bigger error is not seeing that β€œtrying to win over voters from a party on the opposite end of the spectrum, whose values your core voters oppose” is not same as β€œchasing voters from party on same side ideologically whose values your core voters like.”
