Poland has been quite interesting here as they have rebuilt their armed forces. They haven't gone for the cutting edge but the proven and reliable and currently available. Means they have got a lot more units per $ in many categories. Reserves and redundancy. Seems quite sensible.

My uncle worked there as an engineer in the 80's. Made an awful lot of tax free money building internationally illegal aluminium smelters and then came home to the family firm. All that pre-internet/streaming etc. He read -a lot- of books.

Whilst I’m io a roll, there is a growing body of evidence that some people literally find thinking painful. Brain consumes 25% of resting calories, so being in screensaver mode is more calorie efficient and pain mechanisms play a role.

People make decisions based on the subset of information they have. Which isn’t necessarily your subset. So their choices can seem weird or stupid, because you know something they don’t, or they know something you don’t. Everyone has a different set of jigsaw pieces, and no one has all the puzzle.

I hope it isn’t patronising to ask if Sir has heard of the concept of Bounded Rationality? It explains a lot about the world.
