they were telling the creature to cut their names into its flesh, showing it videos how its done. making it feel wanted, even needed. abandoning it for a while, just to start the cycle over. the creature has long escaped but has been broken, without the will to live.

and as much as i like creating for myself, i love destroying for myself. almost all the paintings ive done over the years are gone, 3 survived, one of them i reworked this week. im not happy how it turned out, but satisfied, which is enough for now

maybe the contradiction is worth it, maybe it isnt, the only way to find out is by trying - but with the knowledge that the only thing that matters is that i continue to draw for myself

ive come to realize that im only drawing for myself, to put stuff up on my wall that i like seeing. posting it feels like invalidating the reason i do art, but maybe i have to live with that contradiction
