After few days definitely feels better than Google, like results more than Brave Search. Sometimes Kagi doesn’t hit what I want but something with the same or similar name. Not sure how much of that is influenced by decades of searching using Google? 🤔

Just because it's fun, public transport heatmap for Warsaw(although based on 2021 data):

Oh and there is size different Montreal is dense for NA but is way less dense than Prague or Warsaw. Then smaller towns and villages are much larger part of population than in NA in general

Though overall hydration habits are different we are thought to drink when we are thirst. There is cultural layer on top too. Like in Poland for example people drink a lot of tea regardless of time of the year. Also I believe people in Europe eat more fruits

So I lived both in Canada and Poland(also Czechia). People would definitely take bottle/thermos for longer trips but not shorter ones. On bike sure probable you have bottle on you but if I go somewhere by public transport and then go someone’s place or restaurant no need.

Being from Poland when I moved to Canada concept of city bus that you enter by only one door was(and is) some weird to me…

This is not true. She did study in underground university(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_...) and she was heavily involved in Polish independence cause and later securing funds for Polish science. Not to mention that she herself choose to sign herself by Skłodowska-Curie ie. in 2nd Nobel Prize

Got unlimited search from Kagi for this month and will try to use it exclusively. Hopefully search results gonna be better.

vcpkg - Open source C/C++ dependency manager from Microsoft vcpkg product homepage for C and C++ developers. Download, build, and manage C and C++ libraries for all platforms, buildsystems, and workflows.

New discovery some of VFX packages that are super useful but have a lot of dependencies and scary to compile have vcpkg: vcpkg.io/en/ which make it easy! Compiling openImageIO took me 10 mins yesterday!

What about some cheaper BlackMagic cameras? Not sure how good they are for photography but they definitively have all features required for recoding(10 bit, shooting to frames)?

Lumière - Polish cover (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33)
YouTube video by AYO Cover PL Lumière - Polish cover (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33)

One of things always fascinated me how some languages have terms for things and others don’t. For example English does not have translator (good) translation for concept of “clair obscure” while Polish does: “światłocień”. Also here is cover of Lumière in Polish:

Wonder if in general wouldn’t be better to do averages on chroma/luma instead of RGB in general?

ok hard to read those video specs for this camera

07.07.2025 13:36 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Fair 😅 My knowledge is mostly from commercials and films so all camera used for that can do this. Seems like one of format that can this camera output is XAVC which allows output in 10 or 12 bits.

I’d guess middle ground for video encoding would be Apple ProRes which can be log and output from some cameras(like Ari Alexa - default for most of film shoots)

ahh… and when you film often you would target different color spaces with different black and white point, color depth etc. Most of standards are developed for professions use which tend to have bias to film workflow

07.07.2025 13:06 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

storage is waaaay more cheaper than time on shoot so it’s not a big problem

07.07.2025 13:02 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

what purpose we are talking about? usually shoot is on very flat colors so you need all data for color grading. For VFX log space files from camera(usually in DPX) are converted to linear 32bit in some file(exr) in ACES space

also some of things people are really good at and want to do requires larger teams so it’s even start to be problem large enough to care about that

-a lot of those are trade offs like it’s fun to do some many things for small projects but that also mean I cannot make large tool for long time
-it’s fun to cooperate very closely with few ppls but also that means one of them being toxic will affect me a lot more than in large team

Poland counts military pensions as part of military budget 🤷

iirc that’s why Red cameras records in higher resolution so you can do it
