Ha! You did well for 5 hours, don’t think I would have made it that long. Cheers for the tip. The one at Sherwood hadn’t been seen yet and a site before that has also gone.

Ok, cheers bud. Planning to try soon. Nearest one to me now.

Looking for Twite yesterday - and failing - I saw 2 Grey Partridge, White-fronted Geese, Pinkies, Stonechat, Reed Bunting & probably the most Skylark I have ever seen. A bird often taken for granted, but we’d sure miss their song wouldn’t we. #ukbirding #nebirding #birds #skylark #ukbirds

Just mean the year number is not a priority.. new lifers, then new Lincs, & certain birds I always want to see in a year..like Lesser Pecker, then the year list!

The last time I saw Waxwing, it was Dec β€˜23 & I could see 20+ birds perched in a tree next to a Jet garage before I parked the car. Not so easy this bird at Nosterfield today. Eventually, it appeared,
as the clouds darkened & the rain came in. Still, brilliant to see. #birds #yorksbirding #waxwing

Only just noticed that a lot of these Twite are ringed.

I’m reading a fascinating book at the moment, I think you’d enjoy it - Looking for the Goshawk, by Connor Mark Jameson. European Gos are totally diff from ours, they nest in cities next to busy roads! E.g. graveyards in Berlin. Here’s a quote for you..

Cheers. I am going to Scilly’s for the first time this year, so not impossible..!

Was a long stretch for me, but a great bird.

That’s 4 out of 5 divers seen. I have a one diver left this side of the pacific.. specifically, Pacific Diver.

Wow, fair play. I’m only at β€˜potential ideas’ stage right now.

3 of the at least 70+ strong flock of Twite today. Love their nasal β€˜twee-it’ sound - hence their name. The Linnet of the North! #birds #ukbirds #twite #nebirding #birdsseenin2026 #ukbirding

Some great local birds there Carl. I don’t know a single location for Tawny Owl in Lincs and it’s very difficult for me to get Willow Tit ( Derbyshire is nearest). All my 3 long twitches this year have been solo efforts (although I teamed up with a guy I knew on Anglesey and that was great).

I was first on site this morning at Blyth for this monster of a diver - even bigger than a Great Northern Diver - the White-billed Diver. Look at that banana bill! Watched it feed & fight off marauding gulls. What a beast. #lifer #ukbirds #birds #ukbirding #nebirding #blyth #birdsseenin2026

I missed them a few times, still need them for Lincs. Got them at 2nd location today - 100+ at Seaton Snook.

.. list, but 8 year ticks today. Could have got Brambling (seen by another birder) & Red-necked Grebe also. What a day. #154 for year. #6 lifers for 2026. #ukbirding #birds #birdsseenin2026 #yorksbirding #birdingupnorth

As Mark E Smith once sagely advised, I β€˜hit the north’ today, birding. Far exceeded expectations. Highlights: White-billed Diver (lifer), Twite, Red-breasted Merganser, Waxwing, abundance of Collared Dove, Marsh Tit, Tree Sparrow, Brambling in garden hedges - unlike Lincs. Not really doing a year…

The big listers I know absolutely love birds and are out all the time, locally (& of course they have twitched the country for decades previously). Most love doing both @ I am convinced the balance tilts over time. However people get pleasure though.. each to their own, it doesn’t bother me.

Made me laugh. Nice find mate.

It seems a natural transition and phase of birding to me. The more you’ve seen, the less you twitch, the more you find yourself. Nothing beats a self-found bird does it.

Distant, low light, poor record shot, heavily cropped, unfocussed, blah, blah, blah- but righthand bird Nordic type Jackdaw at Willowtree fen. #lincsbirding
