They think it's all over.
It is now. The webcams will be switched off tomorrow.
All the Osps have migrated now. We wish them a safe journey south and will be awaiting their return.
Thank you for following them and for all your support.

We're celebrating 10 years of grey seal pups at our #SouthWalney reserve, alongside a record breaking count of 563 seals! 😍
Make sure you stay off beaches where seals are hauled out and enjoy watching them from afar, using binoculars or field scopes. 🔭

Mine! All mine!
The ferocious feathered fish filcher guards a snack. We've not seen an intruder like this before. As YW instinctively responds to a begging call he keeps bringing food. Some of the resident chicks may have migrated now. To somewhere safer!

A close-up of a hoverfly on a green leaf surrounded by small white flowers, with a blurred dark background. Large white text reads: “Humanity’s survival depends on nature.” The UNEP logo appears in the top right corner.
If we can’t live without water, why are we poisoning our rivers? If we can’t live without forests, why are we cutting them down? If we can’t live without soil, why are we stripping it of life?
We depend on nature, not the other way around. So why are we pushing our best ally to the brink?

Supper al fresco.
Young Osps are now skilled enough to eat in a tree like this one, silhouetted against the evening sky. It's not easy balancing on a branch while holding a fish. As you'll know if you've ever tried.

Those kids always leave the place in such a mess...
Dad does a bit of nest work in preparation for next year. He's been maintaining this nest for 12 years now and has fed 32 chicks that have flown from it. Hats off, mister!

Whilst we're all loving this long spate of sunshine and warmth, our wildlife may not be! 😅
Making these small changes can mean the difference between life and death for many animals and will likely only take a couple of minutes to implement (even if you don't have a garden) 😄

So we want to talk about dogs and wildlife disturbance.
It's a tricky subject – and we know lots of you will have thoughts!
Here's the problem: our wildlife see dogs as a threat, even if they're not actively chasing them.

And then there were three. Dad has just counted them to be sure. The usual pattern is egg 1, then 2 days later egg 2, then three days later, egg 3. They hatch and usually fledge in that order too.

Meet the neighbours! This the male Osprey who built a nest at Foulshaw last year with his partner. It was a bit rickety, so we have given them a platform for this year. Here's hoping she comes back too.

....Blue 476, a male #osprey currently on the 2nd nest @ Foulshaw Moss! 🦅
He's been on his lonesome for a bit, but we have an inkling he'll have company soon.
Blue 476 is a local, having hatched at a private site in the Lakes in 2021.

Blue 35 oversees YW's DIY efforts.
The nest has now been dug out to make an egg cup in the middle. Now the sides are being tidied. As the season goes on it will change again for the chicks' needs. Busy busy!

We're down to just one mystery female today. Our male, YW (on the left) is fettling the nest and bringing her the occasional fish. Still hoping that Blue 35 comes back. She usually arrives around 30 March. And removes interlopers...

Ms Mystery shouts for a fish. Females do this to check that the male will be a good provider as they don't fish while nesting. She'll get more than a fish if and when Blue 35 gets back. She's often not back till Mar 30th so fingers crossed.

An impressive kill made by White YW earlier today. After consuming some of it on the roosting tree for a while, he then flew back to the nest and gave the rest to the new female.

A dramatic continuation of the #FoulshawOspreys story yesterday, when an unidentified female arrived and staked a claim on the old nest 😱
There have been a number of attempts by White YW to mate with her.
