I’ve been speaking to both young people, parents and carers within Milton Keynes about online safety for young people. 📱
One thing is clear that social media companies are not doing enough to create a safe environment for the online sphere.
When tackling this epidemic of violence, we must ensure that it is rooted out everywhere.
Women and girls deserve to feel unconditionally safe, no matter where they are, the time of the day or who is present.

Today is 5 years since the heartbreaking murder of Sarah Everard – my thoughts are with her loved ones.
Her murder by a serving Met police officer, revealed how deep violence against women and girls runs in our society.
Update on train journeys which states: “Please be aware that if you use train services from Milton Keynes Central Station to London Euston, that between the 3rd and 8th of April no services will run between Milton Keynes Central Station and London Euston in order to complete important engineering and upgrade works on the line This work is a long-term investment in improving the West Coast Mainline, through renewing tracks, signals and power systems, there is a reduced risk of delays and cancellations, meaning smoother journeys for residents in MK as well as ensuring the safety of the line. There will be rail replacement buses operating to Bedford Station which has connections to London St Pancras and London Bridge Stations. You can use your ticket at no extra cost on the following train services: Great Northern or Thameslink services between London Kings Cross and Potters Bar Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services for travel between London St Pancras International and Bedford”

This weekend I joined our community in Milton Keynes to celebrate St David’s Day and commemorate the life of journalist Gareth Jones who reported on the tragic Holodomor.
At the MK Rose we have a pillar dedicated to St David’s Day.
Our city is not a place of violence and my thoughts are with Gary Stanley and his loved ones.

No parent should ever have to live in fear of the content their children may see.
The Molly Rose Foundations “Roadmap for a better online future” can be found on their website and I highly recommend reading it.
A blanket ban is not the solution to making our online sphere safer, we must not allow social media companies to forget their responsibility.
It was an honour to talk to Ian Russell about the steps needed to make the online world safer.

Foreign actors should not be able to influence what happens at the ballot box – we want democracy that works and delivers for the British people.
The Representation of the People Bill will keep foreign interference out of our democracy.

This week I shared the results of my Milton Keynes online safety survey in the Chamber.
Young people are being faced with dangers on so many different platforms from Roblox to Facebook and it is vital that we ensure they can navigate the online sphere as safely as possible.
