What is important is that eventually Robin gets to a point where he finally accepts all that he has seen and heard and wants to take action
07.09.2025 20:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think Robin going through this vicious cycle of anger and acceptance is one that many in academia follow. Sometimes speaking out about issues in academia feels like talking to an ostrich with its head in the sand. This is how Robin's character development goes away well
07.09.2025 20:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Those in academia struggle to reconcile the fact that while their work may contribute to better things in the world (i.e climate or cancer research), it also harms disenfranchised groups and furthers empire.
07.09.2025 20:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The fact is, academia denies change and ignores what causes harm simply because one feels they don't have the power to make a change or because that is how it has always been.
07.09.2025 20:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Babel by R.F. Kuang is heavy handed in it's themes but I don't believe this is Kuang not trusting her readers. As someone who is an academic, I think this speaks to a broader issue in academia.
07.09.2025 20:30 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Don't say you love when women read "male fantasy" but then your page only supports problematic white cis straight male fantasy authors. We should read books by male authors, but let's focus our efforts to promoting marginalized and/or unproblematic male authors

25.03.2025 00:29 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Slide 1: Trans Rights Readathon Social Etiquette.
Slide 2: What and Who is This Post For? This post is a reminder for us all on how to respectfully participate in the Trans Rights Readathon, whether this is your first time on bookish social media, you are an ally, or you simply have any hesitation on the βrightβ way to participate respectfully.
Slide 3: DONβT OUT AUTHORS. First and foremost, the Trans Rights Readathon supports trans folks and wants to minimize harm to real people. In years past, authors have felt pressured and obligated to out themselves to readers in order to be included in the Readathon. Because we never want to forcibly out an author, we promote books that are written by trans+ authors OR feature trans+ main characters. Do not ask or pressure authors to disclose details of their identity that are not already public.
Slide 4: Think Before You Review (especially if you are cisgender!) Before you rate a book negatively, ask yourself: β’ Is there a reason I βdonβt relateβ to this story? β’ What is my intention in posting a negative review right now? Can it wait a few weeks? β’ What are my trans peers saying about this same book? Especially ask yourself these questions for intersectional trans stories, such as books by BIPOC authors if you are a white reader.
Hi, friends! A few days ago, we shared an IGπΈ post from an author who was unwillingly outed by readers in 2023. We have a few notes we want to share for how to keep the readathon safe and successful for everyone. π #trr25 #transrightsreadathon
