So yeah. Yall clearly have the skillsets to start from scratch on your next project and frow from this as a learning experience, but like in the cases of bad localizations, you've probably turned a lot of people off from Segagaga permanently for a nuanced reason that's not the original game's fault.

And again I'm not being, like, punitive towards any one person--again I've been more understanding of mtl use in games where it's like "literally who" but seeing this for Segagaga is like that bs where they cast a cis chick for Bridget as if transfem VAs all just floated up into space one wednesday.

I want to give the folks who worked on it some sympathy because this is kind of a deus ex fuchina in a very long production cycle, but whoever was handling the promotion for this long set yer whole circus up cuz this is a LONG time to go without mentioning yall had an elephant in there.

Even if we don't go into splitting hairs on why AI is a net this or a net that, this is literally one of the worst ducking spaced on the internet to use it and hope nobody notices. Every single project that has done this "after the fact" malarky has been met with total vitriol on sight

I think a better solution to this sort of thing is to directly invite people to be involved in your process or just not do it at all. People are really sensitive about being replaced by The People Replacer in a luxury scene where people desperately dont want to feel unwelcomed and replaced.

For an art anecdote, this makes me think of the plagiarized Inktober tutorial book. Inktober was a widely celebrated October trend over what, at least a decade? And people who had never inked before also took up the pen and the paper and the inks--all to participate with a community.

That's why, even if you'd have to pay me to act interested in Segagaga [while I think of Paris the whole time anyhow], I totally get why and how readily people get to support you when you expose yourself as being willing to meet their common interest as a peer.

I think engaging with these older works isn't entirely a fetishization of nostalgia or whatever-- many players of games old and new don't feel invited into the modern game space, either from being priced out or from this sociopolitical factor or that sociopolitical factor.

I've sorta toed the line both ways in that "I do *get* why people *wanna* "resort" to MTL, especially when making a proof of concept" but also "I've been entirely replaced by my own hobby peers and my dream companies by fucking AI" so I'm not sure how I wanna articulate this, but--

Smugagaga posting aside, I'm circling back to my original stance that a lot of the mutual disappointment would have been wildly mitigated or even prevented if the AI disclaimer was place up front. While I get wanting to announce/promote/celebrate your work with ither fans, that trust can be ethered.

Valkyrie Profile is all very relaxed melodrama (compliment) until you hit that Chapter 4 Spirit Concentration for Lezard (pictured) and then it turns into a true blue Tri-Ace game

The only time Ive ever cried during a video game was thanks to one cutscene in this game and it's legit because of the song. Forever Kingdom's is also amazing. I hope you have fun with it! The scenery is also gorgeous!!!

Aaaaa thanks so much for the kind sentiment! I'm happy you played and enjoyed some of the games my friends and I have collaborated on up to this point. It really feels like I'm just learning off of everyone else--especially in Boku's case, where everyone else was knocking it out of the park!

49. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Spaceworld Fan Demo

Enjoyed seeing this navigated! It's like speedrunning in that I'd often worry watching it would be too immersion-breaking. The extra maps were quite a thrill, though! The whole story behind the restoration is funny and cool.

48. Pokemon Concierge (season 2)

This was a rewatch for me, but gosh I think buzzing off to some island infested with glow-in-the-dark animals and seals really would fix me.

47. Galerians Rion

Made my friend watch the dub. She seemed fairly adoring of the fact it had an MTV audio track with Skinny Puppy. Still one of my favorite OVAs/movies. Would be fun to angrily replay the game+sequel one of these months.
