Series of three tweets by Zoe Gardner taking down Nigel Farage's support of attacks on Iran.
Apologies to @zoejardiniere.bsky.social for crossposting her tweets from the nasty place, but I felt this deserves airtime on bluesky because of how emphatically they prove the nasty, immoral, opportunistic politics of Reform.

I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing βreviewedβ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.

Today, Yanar Mohammed β one of the most formidable feminist leaders of her generation β was assassinated in her home in Baghdad in what appears to have been a targeted militia attack.

screenshot of a facebook post by a Cambridge college with a picture of a fancy desert plate with a golden egg in the middle. The text reads: Have to praise the spectacular food at the College Feast last week, including this beautiful golden egg by pastry chef Zara Western. Inside the hand painted chocolate egg was white chocolate and mascarpone, with the yolk represented by mango, peach and prosecco. It all sat on a nest of kadaif pastry baked with honey. A feast for the eyes.
We're all experiencing this crisis of UKHE in our own way...
(Love ya, Cambridge. And please keep employing & praising your pastry chefs, and having golden desserts. Just speak up for the sake of the sector from time to time.)

Yanar Mohammed writing for Chatham House
Devastated to learn that the great Yanar Mohammed, founder of the Organization for Women's Freedom in Iraq, was assassinated today by 'unknown' gunmen in Baghdad.

I always say that people should do 2 peer reviews for every 1 article they publish themselves, on the basis that this is the minimum amount of labour that the system has given to peer reviewing your work. Any fewer than this is taking more out of other scholars than you put in.

Yes, but there simply arenβt enough people available and qualified to peer review the same proposal multiple times, especially given that doing so isnt really remunerated - so itβs effectively wasting/exploiting the time and energy of other scholars
