If it helps, my son is almost 7 and can play it. At that age, it's basically Uno, and holding 23 cards is difficult when your hands are tiny.

There are almost no good boardgames to play with young children. Minecraft Explorers is one of the better ones. Bonus points for being a pack of cards that come in a small box.

I am so grateful VGIM put Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World and Civ 7 as some of their stand out games of the last year. I am subscribed to too many industry newsletters, and I couldn't decide which one needed to be cut.

It might be perfect. And I don’t say that lightly. Even VF4 Evo was not perfect. Even Super Monkey Ball was not perfect THOUGH YOUR LIGHT STILL SHINES BRIGHT MY LORD.

Where other survival games ask “ok, you want that thing, you must grind now to get a portion of the way there” Core Keeper says “HAVE A ROCKET LAUNCHER! Oh btw, it blasts through rock. Here’s a pet that kills numpties so you don’t have to. Now go fight a Sky Titan.”

Core Keeper is the absolute pinnacle of survival crafting games. Or, perhaps more accurately stated, it’s the perfect distillation of mechanics I’m familiar with from Minecraft, executed perfectly, with joy turned to max.

Now that the anger has subsided and I’ve come to terms with this new Liquid Glass UI, and how naff my once pristine phone is now, I’m really just in awe at the person who got this through what I presume is an insanely rigorous, top heavy approvals process at Apple. The fucking balls on them.

Shout out to @davidnsteer.bsky.social for helping me realise Apple is just helping me use my phone less by making it unenjoyable to perform even basic functions.

I wouldn’t have guessed that a redesign of the aesthetic of the iPhone interface is what makes me look at Android seriously, but here we are.

Lunchtime climbing is the shit. In and out in an hour. Knackered.

Any character that opens up a battle shouting "I'm so manky!" is an immediate main for any self-respecting Scot.
