That's a false equivalence. The older consoles could happily work offline 100% of the time. If you rooted the 3DS the whole point of it was to play games off SD cards, so you never connect to the eShop or download an update to get brick... And good luck to Nintendo. Sending a brick command anyway!

I'd like to see them brick my SNES, or even my 3ds, considering neither of them have functioning internet at the moment....

Nintendo have little interest in keeping cult titles alive or supporting legacy stuff. They want everyone from now on to move to renting their games on remotely killable handhelds. As soon as they stop making money from something, eshop dead, licenses timed out, buy a new console. Rinse, repeat.

So little demand? When I travel there's often one or two kids playing on 2ds/3ds.

And why keep it running? All of the digital only games that people with 3dses might want to give them money for.

Pessimistic? Have you seen any love from Nintendo for preserving games that weren't smash hits?

There were pleas not to close the 3ds eshop, pleas not to kill off the wiiU shop, pleas to allow people to preserve the digital-only games legally, pleas to allow a third party to run the eshop and just send Nintendo the profits. They ignored every single one. They just care about profit.

Given that the 3ds eshop is still down, I don't think Nintendo 'get' messages. They do whatever they damn well please and everyone else has to deal with it. The switch 2 with its remote kill switch is the beginning of the end for people enjoying their childhood gaming nostalgia in later life.

If a game says "rogueli..." I immediately nope out. I CBA with a game that sends me back to square one if I make a mistake, and the game gets harder and harder, so you lose more and more progress. But this game... This really grabbed me. Really enjoyed it. It just felt fun.

Basically, they didn't bother to read ANY of the documentation they were sent, didn't read the quotes or options and didn't try to make an informed decision. They asked AI to summarise it and tell them what to order. What they got is utterly inappropriate for their use case.

Sigh.

Just had another AI generated help request that made absolutely no sense. It basically explained general concepts, with huge factual errors, omitted anything crucial that might help me actually figure out what they want.

Asked them to fix it, and they don't know how!

I saw someone saying that in some sections Linux had now reached 6% desktop market share.. while Steam is showing it knocking on 3%, and the general metrics showing between 4 and 5%. That's already half of apple's Global desktop market share! I think people ignore Linux at their peril these days.

I kinda miss that 80s aesthetic of an extra wire soldered to a few pins to fix a problem nobody's sure what caused it.
