Yeah, 100%! I do the best that I can at @mobilesyrup.com but we've gone from 7 to 3 people over the past 1.5 years, so it's basically just me juggling it all for us.
I've seen many Canadian colleagues say they care about support, but in practice, a lot of them unfortunately don't do anything...

Concur with this; lot of great Canadian freelance writers too that we lose to international clients because Canadian Games Media is disinterested in supporting our thriving (creatively, at least) industry.

(The larger media picture is also dire, but once again, because of US based VCs buying them)

To be clear, not everyone is like that. It's why I've really appreciated getting to know good folks like @cgmagazine.bsky.social, @slybowser.bsky.social and @katyar.bsky.social. They're real ones!
I just wish we could all better come together to uplift our incredible but often-overlooked industry.

Yeah! I see our U.S. colleagues constantly support each other when they do cool stuff. Love it! But it's crickets here. I'll never forget sharing a massive feature on the importance of uplifting 🇨🇦 industry & an editor of another site responds "I've always said that."

Like, it's funny how we'll write all these features about Canadian indie devs doing cool things, and literally most of our support from non-Canadian colleagues. (I appreciate you!)

The number of Canadian media who made a point of following us on literally every platform possible and see everything we do but have never so much as reposted, tried to collab or any other kind of support. Instead, they go behind your back on things with their own cliques. It happens all the time.

I've attended a lot more local events recently and this has sadly only become even clearer.
Canadian devs are nothing but friendly and supportive, and I'm forever grateful for that, but man, most "Canadian media" is anything but.
It's a shame we don't work together to uplift the whole industry.

I cannot emphasize enough that these people are being laid off for failing to do things that are literally impossible

I've seen Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie multiple times now and I'm confident in saying this is one of my favourite comedies ever.
It's so genuinely inspiring to see what Matt, Jay and co. have done with this over the years. I can't wait to see what they do with the Bourdain and MTG movies.

The story behind this game is also really nice, as the devs told me. A chance encounter on Reddit led them to strike up this friendship to make their first-ever game and ended up getting back by iam8bit. You love to see it.

It's a Pokémon-inspired cozy and charming slice-of-life RPG, and it was one of my highlights of SGF last year. Definitely recommend checking it out!
