14.06.2025 03:22 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Happy to see we were highlighted up here. I just had a webinar with someone I am working with on a project and he stated his office (I wonβt name it) is going to lose 4 to VERA which was just approved by DOC. They will haveβ¦gaspβ¦two leads and two Mets. Thatβs it. With upcoming severe season.

@wisc-satellite.bsky.social
A colleague @dustinsaltzman.bsky.social caught this today on satellite. The actual loop is incredible. May be worthy of a satellite post. #BeringSea #akwx
Absolutely good sir. Also, it still says hi, because it is still sitting there an hour later π
15.03.2025 16:49 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Very much reminiscent of April 14 2011. Dust swirling into the cyclone, fires burning over the plains feeding smoke into the center.

15.03.2025 15:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Stunning satellite imagery this morning with the deep cyclone over the N Plains and secondary subtropical stream jet streak emerging across the Gulf states. 110 kt 500 jet streak crossing the warm sector near the Gulf coast is pretty wild. #highrisk

My favorite, the #SPC #basal shortwave trough. 110kt 500 hpa jet streak intersecting the southern Gulf states, projected by
All models on the #high risk day. #basal
Just tossing this out there. Day 8. Yea day 8. 192 hour verification for the trough ejecting into the plains today, by the #ECMWF AI model. Incredible.
14.03.2025 18:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1I am still proud to say I experienced the worst snow season of all-time in 2014-15. I remember chinook after chinook, rainstorm after rainstorm. I learned about studded tires that I still utilize to this day, thanks to those meager years in the mid 2010s.

14.03.2025 06:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We used to call them, #convective bombs.
13.03.2025 13:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also credit to the often mocked Canadian Regional. Itβs nonhydroststic physics can come in handy sometimes.
13.03.2025 13:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Interestingly enough, the course res ECMWF ensemble did the βbestβ. At least showed the potential.
13.03.2025 13:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The HRRR doesnβt even have it right now π Yeah I agree, these are the hardest events for models. Weak convergence coupled with local ocean driven instability, with lifting along a mesoscale front in PWS, and lifting by huge but highly complex terrain. Itβs a model problem that isnβt going away.
13.03.2025 13:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Turnagain Arm convergence can pay dividends in bad snow years. Also, warmer ocean temps presumably can result in more convective banding. Reminds of the tough snow forecasts of the 2010s.

I would also have to think that played a role in why Kaktovik just blew 50+ mph from the east over the last three days with hardly any blowing snow restrictions.
