Jesse Jackson was the template that showed what was possible. He ran for the highest office despite the odds and was eventually proven right. I remember his run through the eyes of a child and it was incredibly inspiring. Thank you sir and rest in peace.

On this day in 1955, police in Montgomery, Alabama, arrested seamstress and activist Rosa Parks for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated city bus.

In the U.S., we use prisoners as a source of income for the powerful, because our prison system originated with our chattel slavery system. This rate increase approval is the intentional result of that system, fought for by sheriffs and wardens and state legislators and huge corporations.
