Port of Seattle Commissioner for SEA and the seaport. Decarbonizing aviation and maritime.
Itβs as if Kennedy decided that we should be the best in the world at making horsedrawn carriages, instead of winning the space race.
07.10.2025 14:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is day 6 of the federal government shutdown but the Port of Seattle is open for business.
Thank you to our federal workers for keeping our region moving.
Yes! Grateful to get to learn from her every day.
03.10.2025 01:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As the federal government shut down continues, Port of Seattle facilities - including SeaTac Airport and our cruise terminals - remain fully open and operational.
If youβre traveling through SEA, arrive early and use Spot Saver to reserve a security screening time

Climate Week NYC started off hot with a federal judge blocking a Trump order that stopped a major offshore wind project and Kimmel getting back on air. Good vibes only as we work on advancing the Blue Economy.
22.09.2025 20:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0While Don Quixote Trump is tilting at windmills, China is building ever larger versions that will quietly power thousands of homes without coal or gas. This remarkable self own by the US means higher utility bills, fewer jobs, and slipping further behind in innovation. Embarrassing.
06.09.2025 15:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0DEAR MR. ZUCKERBERG, META LEADERSHIP, AND MR. LAVIELLE, We are writing as elected leaders representing communities in the Puget Sound region at various levels of government. We urge you to remain neutral and respect the desire expressed by food service workers at Meta offices in Bellevue and Redmond, WA, who are employed by Lavish Roots, to organize a union without fear, intimidation and employer interference. Many of the workers preparing and serving food and drink to Meta employees are our constituents and we support them as they organize for basic safety, stability, equality and respect. We believe that unions are essential in ensuring that working people in the service industry have a path to sustaining themselves in a region that is faced with a rise in the cost of living and income inequality. We are looking forward to working collaboratively with you on this issue. Please donβt hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. Sincerely,
BREAKING: 40 elected leaders sent a letter to Lavish Roots and Meta urging them to be neutral and respect workersβ desire to form a union. Over 200 Lavish workers who prepare and serve meals for Meta employees in WA state are organizing, and our elected leaders have our backs!

In this issue, I share a report out of my time at the United Nations Ocean Conference last month in Nice. Ocean-based innovation holds much promise, but we will need all-hands-on-deck to bring it to scale.

The world is moving on. As US port throughput drops, Asian and European port traffic is increasing as trade flows divert around the US to avoid our tariffs and uncertainty.
26.07.2025 13:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Warehouse vacancy rates in the US are at an 11 year high. Whatever slack was in the supply chain to accommodate tariffs is gone at this point. Inventories are drawn down and product hitting store shelves now will carry at least a 10% tariff burden. β¬οΈ prices, β¬οΈ sales π° economic downturn.

Only Congress can fix this. They need to rein in administration overreach and reclaim their authority over tariff policy.
14.07.2025 22:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The chaos caused by trade policy with no rhyme nor reason is pushing countries to establish stronger relationships with each other. In May at a conference in Korea I attended, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese delegates were discussing how to strengthen ties in light of the USβs bad faith negotiating.
14.07.2025 22:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0US businesses get hurt both ways. Last week I met with two businesses: an importer who had to lay off a third of staff because of supply chain uncertainty and an exporter who has lost all of their export business to Asia.
14.07.2025 22:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So the average tariff rate of 20%, which will kick in on August 1st and is higher than the infamous Smoot Hawley tariffs that deepened and prolonged the Great Depression, will reroute supply chains around the US.
Consumers will pay in the form of higher costs, fewer options, and empty shelves.
As the next self-imposed tariff deadline approaches, itβs a good time to point out that the consequences donβt kick in for consumers (and the economy) for many months. Anticipatory purchases and inventory drawdowns blunt early price pressure. Any fix will require months to undo the damage.
14.07.2025 22:21 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Great question! All will be required to plug in by 2027. I can find out why this ship wasnβt plugged in. Do you know if it had just arrived or was about to depart when you took the picture?
