A Community Centre Evicted, Grassroots Groups Dispersed – The Rover The 15 community organizations that operated in Centre William-Hingston in Parc-Ex were forced out when the CSSDM took back the building. While some services relocated, others closed for good.

Dozens of Montreal’s community organizations have operated out of buildings owned by the CSSDM since the 2020 education reform. These spaces could be reclaimed at any time, leaving organizations vulnerable to eviction. That's what happened to the 15 groups at William-Hingston.

Thoughtful article on gentrification & green infrastructure. Having once been a resident of Parc-Ex, urban agriculture should be part of the discussion. Whether grape vines, tomatoes or the name "Deep Patel" written in a herbs, the tiny yards are often used for food production. Painting by J Dorner.

🏠🌳 Montreal has a long history of using environmental projects to attract capital into the city. Parc-Extension residents say that puts them in a bind: greenify and risk gentrification, or keep dealing with increasingly hot summer temperatures.
