The SNAP stuff on top of famines/hunger globally is destroying my heartβ€”people should not be going hungry, people should not be dying of hunger, people should not be blocking access to food, this is avoidable.

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wastedβ€”literally thrown in the garbageβ€”on purpose.

i really resent the continued assertion that there’s so much anger on both sides, as if the causes of the anger are equally legitimate. we’re angry because masked maniacs are violently snatching our family and neighbors off the street, and they’re angry because we’re calling them out for it.

These birds descended on the trees, munching on the fruit. I stood there, watching. Then I realized I could record them. This was after a bunch had flown away, so not nearly as loud as they started out.

Printing presses kept their letters in cases.

Capital letters went in the upper case.
Smaller letters went in the lower case.

This is why we say β€˜UPPER CASE’ and β€˜lower case.’

Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press?

MAJUSCULE and minuscule.

You all realize ICE are slave catchers?

That’s the horrifically simple truth.

They make money off of every person they kidnap and rip from their families to traffic to private prison owners who get our tax money to hurt them.

What will you do? Don’t answer me here.

if you ask the average American to describe what they think a tougher immigration system should look like, they will describe something a degree of magnitude softer and more generous than the current reality.

The lesson here is that people are both better and dumber than they appear.

Student: "There are only 365 days in the year, but there are over 8 billion people on the planet. How can they all have unique birthdays?"
What I want to know is who comes up with these whack-a-doodle "conspiracy theories".
We had a conversation about how many people share birthdays.

I can’t believe I’m watching interviews of city mayors talking about how they are coordinating with other mayors to discuss how to protect their residents FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

I know we are β€œused to it” but it is absolutely insane

Most German Nazis were dumb, not evil. Just like most MAGA Nazis.

Nazi propaganda brainwashes dumb people to do evil things while making them think they're the good guys.

That's why Nazi propaganda is a felony in Germany now. Nazi lies get people killed.

The wild thing, to me, is how Mitch McConnellβ€”when he was Minority Leaderβ€”did so much to constantly fuck up what the demsβ€”WHO HAD THE MAJORITYβ€”wanted/tried to do, and now minority dem leaders do not have (or use) that same power/tactics.

Wtf.

Yeah, this is the take. The reason we don’t get UBI outside of experiments here or there is BECAUSE they work so well.

If they work well, then people are less poor. If people are less poor, those in power have less leverage to dangle poverty over our heads as a form of social control.

One of the biggest cultural issues we have is that no major media or journalistic institutions have been reinforcing norms of what things *should* look like. That corruption isn’t normal, that cronyism isn’t normal, that lies and scandals should be punished, that incompetence is disqualifying.

The image features a large, white, conical buoy floating on a body of water. The buoy has a smooth, rounded top with a blue band around its middle, and a metal ring at the top for securing it. The water surrounding the buoy is calm, with gentle ripples visible. The buoy is centered in the image, with the text "PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC" prominently displayed at the top in bold, white capital letters. The buoy's shape and the text create a humorous juxtaposition, as the buoy is typically used for navigation and safety at sea, while the text references a popular song.

I added an app to my phone that counts the steps I took for the day (well, there's prizes involved, so...). Since getting it, I've averaged about 800 steps a day. Today? Over 6000. No wonder I'm sore. (Back to work...)
