The SNAP stuff on top of famines/hunger globally is destroying my heart—people should not be going hungry, people should not be dying of hunger, people should not be blocking access to food, this is avoidable.

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

i really resent the continued assertion that there’s so much anger on both sides, as if the causes of the anger are equally legitimate. we’re angry because masked maniacs are violently snatching our family and neighbors off the street, and they’re angry because we’re calling them out for it.

Yeah, this is the take. The reason we don’t get UBI outside of experiments here or there is BECAUSE they work so well.

If they work well, then people are less poor. If people are less poor, those in power have less leverage to dangle poverty over our heads as a form of social control.

One of the biggest cultural issues we have is that no major media or journalistic institutions have been reinforcing norms of what things *should* look like. That corruption isn’t normal, that cronyism isn’t normal, that lies and scandals should be punished, that incompetence is disqualifying.

The world is so amazing and yet what we’re making of it is so awful—it’s very hard to live through this period and bear witness without feeling slightly insane.
