Decades before Tiger Woods, South End golfer Bill Wright made history as the first Black U.S. golf champion β a victory rooted in the communityβs long fight for access to the sport.
Bill Wright, a Franklin High grad from the Central District, made history in 1959 as the first Black golfer to win a U.S. national title.
