Due to the underperformance of the booster, but also due to a breach the second stage's combustion chamber, the satellite was left in a useless orbit. The third and final Delta III launch happened on August 23rd, 2000, carrying a DemoSat, ended up being a partial failure.

#OnThisDay 26 years ago, Delta III completed its second ever launch with a failure, taking off from CCSFS on launchpad SLC-17B in Florida. Its 4.3 ton payload, Orion 3 did not get into GTO due to the failure of the Delta III launch system.
