...(e.g. Black people, Chinese people, gay men…) and the older way of speaking seems tone-deaf, if not outright offensive. You also see this phenomenon in people who think it’s rude to say “Jews” and instead insist that the only proper way to refer to us is “Jewish people”.

On further thought, I suspect the noun/adjective distinction is part of what rankles people about the use of the word “goyim”. Forty years ago it was common to refer to minorities using collective nouns (the Blacks, the Chinese, the gays…) but nowadays it’s more common to use adjectives... (contd)

Still the same issue, “goy” is a singular noun, not an adjective. “A cis” doesn’t scan right.

This is pretty much exactly right, with the small grammatical quibble that “goyim” is a plural noun, not an adjective, so a better analogy would be “goyim = cisgenders” (which I almost never see used)

“Set out to destroy him”? The dude literally volunteered to work at Sbu Ghraib, “accidentally” got a Totenkopf tattoo, then covered his Totenkopf with a Fentis tattoo. Pretty sure he handled his destruction all by himself

Leaders from across Michigan showed up because Romulus showed up tonight to say loud and clear:

No ICE prison here.

Guy who "accidentally" got a Totenkopf tattoo and then covered it up with a Fenris tattoo has opinions about a small cabal of elites who secretly control the world

On display, in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “Beware of the Leopard”

The hill I am going to die on is that "The 1900s" refers to a *decade*, specifically 1900-1909, and if you want to talk about the entire period 1900-1999 (or 1901-2000, whatever) you say "The 20th Century"

A photo of an ice cream machine with a sign reading, "Anything is possible with ice cream." Beneath that is a hand lettered sign reading, "No ice cream".

Same thing with electric vehicles... The fact that Tesla is run by a fascist doesn't mean EV technology (or even the very concept of EV) is tainted by association.

You said "the main thing being inculcating enjoyment in the process of learning or using the skills being taught seems really strange to me" and as a 30-year educator at both the secondary and college levels this seems absolutely baffling to me

16.02.2026 21:31 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Literally *everyone* who has ever worked hard at acquiring *any skills at all* (baking, playing flute, lifting heavy weights, building a deck) knows that "enjoying the work" and "learning skills" go hand-in-hand. Why should "doing math" be the one exception to an otherwise universal experience?

16.02.2026 21:20 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

It's basic human nature to take satisfaction and pleasure in learning how to do something well -- and if you *don't* take pleasure and satisfaction in the effort, *you will never learn to do it well* because there is nothing to help you overcome your failures.

16.02.2026 21:20 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Seems really strange to mean that people *should not, by default*, take enjoyment in learning and using skills. Why do you think people have woodworking shops in their basement, or spend hours learning and practicing a new knitting pattern, or work on skateboarding tricks? (cont'd)
