I've always believed that players should get at least a 12 hour hall pass after a disappointing loss, meaning any statement they have made in that period gets wiped out of collective memory. Imagine being interviewed after a crushing personal and collective loss and not saying something cringe.

We're at that part of Spring Training where I get a score change alert on my phone and have no idea, just based on the names of the players who scored, whether this is good news for the Rays or for the Pirates.

For me, it depends. When they win, I'm all about the winning culture. When they lose it's clearly just practice.

I guess you don't spend much time around sports fans! Sure the doomerism isn't quite so much focused on institutional collapse, but every sports fan thinks that when things are going poorly the will go poorly forever, and when they go well we are one flap of a butterfly wing away from going poorly.
