Thinking a lot about how to square abolitionist policies with a cultural desire to seek vengeance in the face of terrible oppression. Can we really abolish ICE and all state violence if we’re also calling for the imprisonment of ICE agents? Can we change if we keep all the same systems in place?

My yearly reading has SKYROCKETED since I started reading audiobooks. Like, I used to only manage 2 or 3 books outside of things I teach. Now I read over 100 consistently, and most are audiobooks.

If whoever does these polls were to listen to librarians & admit that reading books on audio is reading, this number might change significantly.

Also please remember that you can love someone while refusing to subject yourself to the harm they inflict on you. These are not incompatible actions.

Remember to love the people around you, deeply and unironically. That’s going to get us a lot further than spite.

Pro Tip: catch up on peer review during contentious faculty meetings. You'll save yourself a lot of anger and help another scholar while you're at it.
