She will use her Watson funding to advance care delivery models to reduce health care disparities among vulnerable populations in San Francisco.

Last week, 2024 ASCI/Marian W. Ropes, MD, Award recipient Dr. Renee Hsia gave the award's annual lecture at the AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting. Her talk was titled βFrom Dispatch to Discharge: Addressing Systemic Dysfunction in the U.S. Health Care System.β

A study led by Dr. Melanie Molina and published in JAMA Network Open found that few U.S. EDs screen for adverse social determinants of health, and many lacked policies requiring a response to positive screens, despite the high prevalence of unmet social needs in ED populations.
