Sixers say Tyrese Maxey will miss at least two games with right fifth finger sprain It is difficult to imagine the Sixers withstanding any sort of long-term absence from Tyrese Maxey, their most dependable player by far.

Out of a possible 126 games, the Sixers' two highest-paid players, Joel Embiid + Paul George, have combined to make 60 appearances. Tyrese Maxey has played in 61 games, with his only two absences caused by an illness in December. Now, two more are coming:

NEWS: Sixers say “Tyrese Maxey suffered a sprain of the right fifth finger. He will undergo additional testing and consultation in the coming days to determine a treatment plan. He is OUT for the next two games and further updates will be provided after the back-to-back.”

Quentin Grimes had seven 20-plus-point games in the first 22 games of the season, then none for 35 games. On Saturday in Atlanta, Grimes scored 26 points (9-15 FG) in the Sixers' loss to the Hawks:

If the Sixers are going to find success using Trendon Watford in three-big lineups, they should continue incorporating his chops as a post-up player, where he can both score and pass. Nick Nurse likes this part of Watford's game and has utilized it more over the last few days:

Maxey chose not to speak postgame, but was in the locker room for much of the open period and looked to be in good spirits. He was using both hands to eat a Chik-fil-A sandwich and type on his phone.

More specifically, it’s an injury to a finger on his right hand. I’m told he will undergo more testing tomorrow. The Sixers are staying overnight in Atlanta before flying to Cleveland tomorrow.

Maxey just emerged in said hallway and walked into the locker room. He did not have any sort of wrap/protection on his hand at the moment, though I imagine it was just getting examined in some way.

Nick Nurse did not have any information beyond Maxey was going to get X Rays. His parents are among those here in the hallway outside the locker room.

Instant observations: Tyrese Maxey suffers injury scare at end of Sixers' latest brutal loss The Atlanta Hawks played the Sixers tough all year long, and Saturday night's matchup was no different.

A great start, a tough closing effort and a potentially cataclysmic final handful of seconds for the Sixers in Atlanta tonight. Suddenly hard to focus too much on the standings after Tyrese Maxey went down, but this was a meaningful loss:

Sixers didn't lose because of any one rotation move in particular tonight – their defense was just dreadful for much of the night – but the way-too-long Andre Drummond second-half stint is hard to fathom. We'll see on Tyrese Maxey's right hand, obviously ominous. Story coming.

Sixers let Dyson Daniels break free at the rim on a SLOB play when they absolutely needed a stop. They are down to their last chance here. On the verge of being swept 4-0 in the season series, largely because Jalen Johnson has absolutely obliterated them.

Brutal time for a moving screen on Adem Bona. Nick Nurse, irate at the call, said yesterday that Bona had gotten better at avoiding those.

Hard for me to gather why Andre Drummond has been on the floor for over 12 minutes running. He just missed a corner three and then got a rebound ripped out of his hands, leading to a bucket. Sixers down by 10 with four minutes and change left. Adem Bona is at the scorer's table.

It is an eight-point lead for the Hawks, their largest of the night with six minutes left. Timeout Nick Nurse.

Sixers were outscored 31-21 in the third quarter, and now find themselves in a hole entering the final frame. Their offense remains excellent but they have stopped getting stops.

Sixers-Hawks has turned into a "defense optional" sort of game. Some standout dunks/finishes from Oubre and Grimes. Now on the seesaw.

Sixers started to lose control late in the half before getting big shots from Tyrese Maxey and Quentin Grimes.

Maxey leads all scorers with 22 points. Kelly Oubre Jr. has 15-4-3-2. Grimes has 11-3-2 on five shots.

Sixers are 30-46 from the field.

Trendon Watford seems to have gotten Dyson Daniels ejected from this game. Daniels two-hand shoved him during a stoppage.

Awesome run for Trendon Watford here. Has used his size to play bully ball and score. This is what it should look like if he is on the floor in these three-big lineups.

Cam Payne with another steal that turns into transition points, and Quin Snyder with another timeout. Outstanding start for Payne, who has four points and four assists.

An awesome start for the Sixers, who got 15 early points from Tyrese Maxey, 9-3-2 from Kelly Oubre Jr. and shot 15-24 as a team.

Hell of a start for Kelly Oubre Jr. in his return. He has 9-3-2 on 4-5 shooting. Sixers have looked awesome early; a Cam Payne steal and score has them up by 11 points and has forced another Hawks timeout.

Early three-point shooting foul on Quentin Grimes, his first in a while after having rather significant issues with those earlier in the year.

The Sixers and Hawks are underway, with Kelly Oubre Jr. getting the assignment on Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels defending Tyrese Maxey. Sixers will likely roam off of Daniels.

Adem Bona will start again at center tonight, alongside Maxey-Grimes-Oubre-Barlow.
