Sixers say Tyrese Maxey will miss at least two games with right fifth finger sprain It is difficult to imagine the Sixers withstanding any sort of long-term absence from Tyrese Maxey, their most dependable player by far.

Out of a possible 126 games, the Sixers' two highest-paid players, Joel Embiid + Paul George, have combined to make 60 appearances. Tyrese Maxey has played in 61 games, with his only two absences caused by an illness in December. Now, two more are coming:

Quentin Grimes had seven 20-plus-point games in the first 22 games of the season, then none for 35 games. On Saturday in Atlanta, Grimes scored 26 points (9-15 FG) in the Sixers' loss to the Hawks:

If the Sixers are going to find success using Trendon Watford in three-big lineups, they should continue incorporating his chops as a post-up player, where he can both score and pass. Nick Nurse likes this part of Watford's game and has utilized it more over the last few days:

Maxey chose not to speak postgame, but was in the locker room for much of the open period and looked to be in good spirits. He was using both hands to eat a Chik-fil-A sandwich and type on his phone.

More specifically, it’s an injury to a finger on his right hand. I’m told he will undergo more testing tomorrow. The Sixers are staying overnight in Atlanta before flying to Cleveland tomorrow.

Maxey just emerged in said hallway and walked into the locker room. He did not have any sort of wrap/protection on his hand at the moment, though I imagine it was just getting examined in some way.

Nick Nurse did not have any information beyond Maxey was going to get X Rays. His parents are among those here in the hallway outside the locker room.

A great start, a tough closing effort and a potentially cataclysmic final handful of seconds for the Sixers in Atlanta tonight. Suddenly hard to focus too much on the standings after Tyrese Maxey went down, but this was a meaningful loss:

Sixers didn't lose because of any one rotation move in particular tonight – their defense was just dreadful for much of the night – but the way-too-long Andre Drummond second-half stint is hard to fathom. We'll see on Tyrese Maxey's right hand, obviously ominous. Story coming.
