I love this album of demos, because about 95% of them sound like they hired Max DeMarco to make the music for Animal Crossing.

One thing I've noticed more on YouTube is channels who not only hit their niche, but find the three or four videos that do best, and essentially just start remaking them over and over again.

This kind of hyper specialization especially for people who want engagement makes everything feel so unreal.

I should never be at risk of hearing even one second from Hamilton.

I balance it out with watching the Mets do whatever it is they seem to do every year.

On this point specifically, I think another part of it too is the rise of franchise / fandoms. Even for media properties that aren't franchises, if you write anything critical, a certain segment freaks out.

Frankly embarrassing to be this condescending when basically everything you've said was wrong and you've never lived here, lmao. You didn't even comprehend the post you're replying to!

I completely agree that art is about the communication between two people, but something about how it's framed here is a little odd to me. I don't really care if someone has a reputation for seriousness or whatever.

What's up with every pair of pants being stretchy now? I don't know, I've never found jeans or other regular pants uncomfortable, but almost everything is stretch now.

Fashion is probably the most American inspired part of Japanese culture, but it's Western-style everywhere. And there's a lot of style that's extremely specific to Japan, even in just daily wear. Walk into any Uniqlo, and the styles, cuts, etc., are similar, but different.

So you've never lived here? It's cool, you can just say you don't know. Japan's not diverse, but they've developed an insane amount of cultural capital that's largely unique. Japanese pop music is a lot more influenced by K-pop than American music. You think there's a lot of idol groups in the USA?

Tourism in the Japanese economy accounts for roughly 1% of the GDP from the most recent metrics I've seen. Growing, but this is not accurate.

Do you / have you lived in Tokyo? I've found the local arts scene to be much much more vibrant than it was in Chicago. Red flag to me you're immediately equating culture in Tokyo with "anime" first and foremost.

I think this is endemic: lots of people simply don't believe they can change, let alone change themselves. We've built a society of people with fixed rather than growth mindsets.

But isn't Kodak Alaris (rights, distribution, branding etc.) not Eastman Kodak (who makes the film, says they're going bankrupt, etc.) It's why you find the Kodak logo slapped on like minifridges or whatever. Or the Kodak apparel stores.

Fuji's bestselling photo product is their film Instax cameras, iirc.

Yeah, this is true. Hopefully the vibes turn around and they start winning at a slightly higher clip, and especially if that comes at the same time as the Brewers cooling slightly, I think we'll all feel a lot better.
