Yael Grauer huertanix Worst of Cybersecurity Reporting 2024 For the sixth year, the two tech reporters who have been roasting the worst tech reporting are back. We also work in cybersecurity and love to dunk on “AI” aka expensive autocorrect, which makes us especially qualified for this year’s roast. In this session, we’ll focus on common tropes in privacy, security and AI tech that journalists get wrong again and again. On the grill are exploding toothbrushes, solar flares, reappearing nudes, LLaMas, 9.9999 severity exploits for all 9 Linux users who still use printers, and myths about your phone listening to you all the time. Coming back for another year: Well-intended but bad advice on burner phones, “Signal is a psyop” and more! Find out what folks who read and write these stories are worried about, and what they should actually be worried about. Track 1 Sat 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm
